Performs journeyman level installation, service and repair to various systems including, but not limited to, electrical distribution, emergency lighting, telephone, street/parking lot lighting, HVAC, security, fire alarms and intercoms.
Installs, alters, maintains and repairs electrical wiring and equipment, both high and low voltage. Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to insure compliance with codes. Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Installs ground leads and connects power cables to equipment, such as motors. Installs conduit and pull wires/cables. Provides preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services. Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in wiring, equipment and fixtures using testing devices. Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on job specifications and codes. Purchases parts and equipment, recommends annual supply requirements. Reads and interprets blueprints and schematic wiring diagrams. Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) plus satisfactory completion of an approved 4-year electrical apprenticeship. City of Reading Journeyman's License. Valid Pennsylvania Operator's License.
