Electrician

UC Riverside's Auxiliary Facilities Services is recruiting for an Electrician. The full salary range for the Electrician is $45.61 - $51.36 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. The Electrician performs journey-level work related to the repair, maintenance, service, installation, modification, troubleshooting, inspection, and monitoring of industrial electrical equipment, electrical systems, computerized lighting systems, and battery chargers. Performs planned and emergency maintenance on electrical and lighting control systems throughout Auxiliary Facilities. Maintains industrial electrical equipment of various voltages up to and including 12,000volts (12KV); performs troubleshooting, as needed, on equipment such as generators, transformers, Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) switchgear, breakers, batteries, DC systems, and Motor Control Centers (MCC) to identify and resolve electrical equipment problems. Maintains clear and accurate documentation of all inspections, testing and maintenance (corrective and/or preventative) performed. Updates equipment documentation, specifications and drawings, as needed. Reviews and updates all shop logs, both paper and electronic according to updates and changes. Responds to emergency situations to mitigate and/or resolve immediate electrical concerns or safety issues. Reviews and creates blueprints/drawings, and specifications for new construction and retrofit/renovation projects according to building code requirements. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purposes of resolving immediate safety concerns. Performs all job duties in adherence with University and departmental safety guidelines. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.\n \nElectrical Maintenance, 1 of 2: Works in and around commercial and residential electrical equipment of various voltages up to and including 12,000volts ( 12KV), performs maintenance and repair on electrical systems such as generators, transformers, motors, Medium Voltage (MV), Low Voltage (LV) switchgear, DC systems, computerized lighting systems and battery chargers. Maintains, repairs and installs electrical systems such as panels, lights, controls, sensors, electrical systems, conduit, motors, operators, and wiring. Performs troubleshooting on equipment such as generators, transformers, switchgears, breakers, batteries, computerized lighting systems, motors, and Motor Control Centers (MCC) to identify potential or actual electrical equipment problems. Repairs and rewires systems according to building codes and safety regulations. Performs preventive maintenance on line and low voltage systems. Performs installation, programming, updating as well as servicing of Lutron (and other brands) lighting and shading control systems. Performs installation of new or modified electrical wring and devices; troubleshooting, shop fabrications, predictive and preventive maintenance, inspections, test operations, services repairs or replacement. Participates in the design of assemblies, systems, equipment and/or controls, electrical and/or mechanical.Electrical Maintenance, 2 of 2: Prepares drawings in detail showing measurements and materials with information obtained from blueprints and verbal instructions. Performs work on shop fabrications, predictive and preventive maintenance, inspections, test operations, sustaining services, trouble shooting and repairs and/or replacement of complex control and mechanical power systems. Fabricates, places, and terminates various types of buses, cables, conductors, and wires. Install, connect, test, operate, modify, repair and replace circuit breakers, controls, fuses, lighting, motors, outlets, signaling devices, switches, thermostats, timers and wring devices. Operates, calibrates, adjusts, cleans, services and repairs electrical components and systems.Shop Support, 1 of 2: Maintains working knowledge of the proper and safe usage of electrical tools and equipment. Keeps track of shop materials/parts. Performs computer input within the work order system for recording of labor and materials used in work performed; maintains clear and accurate documentation of all inspections, testing and maintenance performed. Updates equipment documentation, specifications and drawings as needed. Cleans truck/shop and maintains organization of materials and tools; performs routine maintenance or coordinates for repair or replacement of tools and equipment, as required. Accounts for shop parts/supplies inventory and reports supply needs to be restocked. Consults with supervisor and/or lead for technical information, as needed. Interprets prints, schematics, wiring diagrams, flow charts and written descriptions of functions and project requirements. Supports maintenance projects and programmatic work assignments. Adheres to the scheduling and completion of work assignments through the work order system. Maintains accurate work order records and completes paperwork in a neat and timely manner. Defines and describes materials, tools and/or equipment, work methods and task sequences. Obtains materials and equipment, as required. Serves as liaison with clients/customers, relaying their needs and requirements to the appropriate department or supervisor. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students.Shop Support, 2 of 2: Communicates and reports to a supervisor and/or staff regarding any potential issues, not limited to potential safety hazards (e.g. broken glass, regulated materials, damaged steps, excess water, fire, etc.), or liabilities during the day-to-day operations. Contacts Auxiliary Facilities Services teams, as necessary, when further action is required. Responds to customer complaints and requests for information. Works with customer and campus personnel to accurately define the nature of the problem, determine the appropriate course of action, make recommendations and follow up to ensure resolution has been effective. Participates in safety and other trainings as required. Performs all job duties in adherence to all University and Departmental safety guidelines.\n \nDemonstrated knowledge of safety regulations, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, Arc Flash, NEC, and standard industry practices. Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory, and technical practices in order to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair needed for high voltage equipment and lines.Skill in operating shop equipment and tools common to the skilled trade. Skilled use and maintaining of electrical tools and test equipment such as oscillators and rotation meters, digital test equipment, fault finding equipment, amp meters, voltmeters, meggers, graphic recorders, dressing tools, wire tongs, wire tong supports, insulated tension links, tie sticks, and insulated hoods/covers and tools.Ability to effectively communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards.Knowledge in safe and proper procedures open hazardous materials are suspected. Ability to estimate time, methods and materials needed from construction documents.
