POSITION SUMMARY:
The Electrician, under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, is responsible for performing skilled electrical work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems located throughout all Kewadin Casino properties. This includes interior and exterior environments, gaming floors, administrative spaces, mechanical areas, and associated facilities. The Electrician ensures all work complies with the State of Michigan electrical code, Tribal regulatory requirements, and safety standards. The position requires delivering professional, courteous, and customer-focused service to both internal and external clients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (Including, but not limited to, the following)
- Ensures all electrical work complies with electrical codes and Tribal building requirements.
- Installs, maintains, and replaces electrical fixtures, outlets, switches, wiring, conduit, lighting systems, and related components.
- Provides accurate cost estimates for electrical projects, including time, materials, and equipment.
- Diagnoses electrical issues, including locating short circuits using appropriate testing equipment.
- Strips, connects, and terminates wiring in accordance with safety and code standards.
- Inspects electrical components for loose connections, defects, or damaged insulation; performs corrective repairs.
- Installs, repairs, and updates control panels, breakers, distribution equipment, and other electrical assemblies.
- Cuts, fabricates, and fits metal components needed for installation or repair work.
- Ensures all assignments are completed safely and efficiently with minimal disruption to casino operations.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and keep electrician's parts and vehicle stocked and prepared for rapid-response situations.
- Participates in after-hours, weekend, or holiday work as needed to support 24/7 casino operations.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and frequently lift/carry 25 lbs. Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and manual handling. Occasional walking, sitting, climbing, pushing/pulling, and working at heights. Visual requirements include near vision, depth perception, color vision, and ability to inspect small details. Exposure to noise, vibration, varying weather conditions, humidity, and potential air quality concerns. Hazards: High risk of electrical shock, moving machinery, elevated work locations, and occasional exposure to biological hazards. Required PPE includes eye and ear protection, steel-toe footwear, gloves, and electrical-rated tools.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- Minimum of 8,000 hours (approximately 4 years) of documented practical electrical experience in commercial, industrial, or facility‑maintenance environments.
or
- Experience must include work performed under the supervision of a qualified journeyman‑level electrician, master electrician, or other recognized competent professional.
and/or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship, vocational training program, or equivalent military/trade school training may substitute for part of the required experience.
Competency & Skills Requirements
- Must demonstrate working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and electrical safety best practices applicable to Tribal commercial facilities.
- Must demonstrate the ability to perform journeyman‑level tasks safely and independently, including troubleshooting, installation, repair, and system upgrades.
- Must be able to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
Certification/Licensure
- State of Michigan Journeyman or Master Electrician License is preferred.
- Valid driver's license required; must be insurable under the Sault Tribe Insurance Department and comply with annual driving record reviews.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, controls, equipment, and materials used in commercial and industrial settings.
- Ability to follow strict safety protocols and apply risk‑mitigation practices appropriate for casino and public‑facing Tribal facilities.
- Excellent communication and customer‑service skills with a positive, cooperative attitude.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete tasks with minimal oversight.
- Must be able to work extended hours, rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed for 24/7 operations, and to work under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies.
