Position Information

Hiring Department: Facilities Management

Reports To: Associate Director

Job Location: Onsite, El Paso, TX

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education.

Position Summary

Supervises and coordinates activities of Electrician and Maintenance Electrician engaged in construction, maintenance and repair of electric power, lighting, and communication systems of buildings, factories, and transportation equipment.

Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervises and coordinates activities of Electrician and Maintenance Electrician engaged in construction, maintenance and repair of electric power, lighting, and medium voltage gear and building control systems.

Supervises and coordinates activities of shops and contracted electricians. Prepares and assigns work schedules, on-call rotations and work assignments for electric shop team.

Assures the installation of a wide variety of electrical motors, generators, fans, lamps and scientific laboratory equipment. Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and ensures proper performance of electrical systems.

Complies with all NEC, state, and local electrical codes.

Review of construction plans and documents for Planning and Construction. Must read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.

Purchases and inventories shop supplies, machinery, and equipment; works with subcontractors.

Estimates labor and material cost; reports the estimate to superior and work order initiator.

Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations by conducting safety meetings

Coordinates with other trades and department supervisors on work projects and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job.

Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and working conditions to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and have the ability to learn institutional software systems.

Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school within area of assigned responsibility.

and

Experience: Seven years of experience as a licensed journeyman electrician

Preferred Qualifications: Master Electrician license

Facilities Management, under the leadership of Assistant Vice President of Facilities Management Stanley Joshua, oversees Facilities Services, Planning and Construction and Space Management. Working together as a team, we strive to fulfill the mission and vision of the University. The UTEP campus has a rich history, and its architecture and infrastructure is truly a unique and important aspect of this history.
