Electrician Technician

The Electrician is responsible for all aspects of installation, preventive maintenance, routine maintenance, inspection and/or repair of the electrical systems in facilities owned and operated by Universal Studios Hollywood and throughout the park and other duties assigned within the Electrical department. This includes but is not limited to: operational aspects such as daily inspections, repairs and preventative maintenance issues relating to the above criteria and maintaining all facility electrical systems in accordance to all applicable codes, standards, and USE specifications, including electrical wiring, fixtures and equipment from 12V to 12470V.

Responsibilities:

• Installing, maintaining, servicing, rebuilding, troubleshooting, repairing, and operating all industrial, commercial, and non-commercial electrical equipment throughout park and related properties. This will include all main switchgear, main breakers, UPS units, generators, transfer switches, motors and control centers.
• Inspects equipment, controls and devices
• Installation of new circuits, equipment and supporting work
• Installs electrical wiring and controls and test for proper operation
• Installation and repair of electrical conduit.
• Update electrical as-built drawings.
• Equipment cleaning, care and maintenance.
• Adheres to all Standard Operating Procedures within Technical Services and USH at large. • Promotes and provides extraordinary guest service for both internal and external guests; answer questions, offer information, and provide assistance in a courteous manner.
• Understands and demonstrates the proper use of safety practices and ensures department standards are maintained and safety policies for the Park upheld.
• Responsible for testing, servicing and maintaining show control systems, building management lighting controllers including mechanical, electrical, IP based networks and associated instrumentation. Must be able to operate and troubleshoot PLC and HMI interface devices based on established designs.
• Keep abreast of the advances in technologies and techniques in the Theme Park Industry.

Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications/Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must be a journeyman with 3-5 years electrical trade experience
• Must have at least 3-5 years of experience conducting preventive maintenance work activities, including IR scanning, cleaning of switch gear, and other preventive maintenance duties.
• Demonstrate understand of the NFPA-70E Electrical Safety in the workplace
• Knowledge of Circuit Breakers, LSIG Trip Units, Transfer switches, Generators, and UPS systems.
• Knowledge of lighting control systems, including motion sensors, day-light harvesting sensors, and other electrical/lighting control devices.
• Demonstrates the ability to navigate the National Electric Code book when determining conductor size, grounding, and conduit sizing.
• Knowledge the use of personal protection equipment, including arc flash and Lock out tag out.
• Advanced knowledge of diagnostics and repair of electronic, mechanical and electrical components and systems
• Knowledge of microelectronics.
• Knowledge of applicable code requirements; methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment
• Must have the ability to read and interpret Blue Prints and Infra Structure drawings.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Familiarity with industry standard commination protocols, DMX, BacNet, LonWorks, Modbus, Etc.
• Proven ability to interpret a lighting designer's plan, operate industry standard lighting controllers, set & lock-in lighting levels and focus based on creative design.
• Ability & willingness to work a variety of schedules, overtime, nights, weekends and holidays with short notice
• Ability and willingness to respond to incidents in locations requiring climbing, fall-protection, and other non traditional work-environments.
• Familiarity with inspections and operate generator and ATS systems
• Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written on a technical level. The individual must be capable of communicating effectively with outside operating departments within USH supplying them with accurate and timely information with the necessary details.
• Must have the ability to motivate employees and work independently and as part of a team.

Desired Characteristics:

• Associate's degree (AA or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
• 3-5 years technical and trade experience in industrial and commercial construction or a fast-paced service company
• Possess a Certified General Electrician Card by the State of California
• Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of employees and management, and willingness to give assistance to co-workers.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently under pressure; proactive thinker/self-starter • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to gather information and prepare training material for presentation to other team members
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; knowledge of inventory software, i.e. Maximo
• Ability to contribute to system improvement process

Theme Park Operations knowledge Working Conditions:

• Some jobs require an employee to be exposed to inclement weather conditions.
• Some jobs require an employee to be exposed to hazardous work environments.
• Exposure to extreme temperatures relative to the various systems
• Exposure to weather, noise, and hazardous materials
• Required to work in confined spaces

Required to work at heights Physical Requirements:

• The job duties require an employee to move heavy objects.
• The job duties require an employee to traverse rough terrain.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and objects up to 50lbs.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, etc. for extended periods of time

Pay Rate starting at $45.71 per hour.
