Electro-Mechanical Systems Controls Technologist

What you will do

  • Support maintenance and manufacturing engineering by executing changeovers, PMs, and rapid-response troubleshooting across robotic, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated systems
  • Keep equipment available by minimizing downtime and documenting actions in the CMMS
  • Collaborate in crossover meetings and maintain clear, current equipment logs
  • Work safely around chemicals, high voltage, loud noise, and hazardous waste while following all environmental and safety procedures
  • Adapt to irregular schedules driven by production requirements

Role scope by level

Level 1 Responsibilities

  • Start up and shut down work centers
  • Complete changeover tasks and respond to production issues with urgency
  • Troubleshoot basic pneumatics, soldering operations, robots, tip changers, and fixtures
  • Execute barrel or drum changes and perform weight checks
  • Understand production metrics and utilize formal escalation steps
  • Diagnose and tune adhesive dispense systems for multiple adhesive chemistries

Level 2 Responsibilities

  • All Level 1 responsibilities, plus
  • PLC program, hydraulic, pneumatic, servo drive, and vision system troubleshooting
  • Read and apply electrical schematics, pneumatic prints, and blueprints
  • Replace hydraulic and pneumatic components and rebuild solder heads
  • Perform robot program troubleshooting and verify quality with gauging fixtures

Level 3 Responsibilities

  • All Level 2 responsibilities, plus
  • Modify robot paths, teach and calibrate vision systems, and adjust HMIs
  • Create or revise PLC ladder logic, HMI applications, pneumatic diagrams, and electrical schematics
  • Apply GD&T and metrology, and work with network protocols
  • Optimize soldering processes and replace servo drives
  • Develop blueprints or drawings and contribute to engineering design
  • Coach production and maintenance teams, support skills assessments, and recommend or deliver training
  • Drive problem solving, continuous improvement, and other departmental initiatives

Qualifications by level

Level 1

  • 1 to 3 years repairing mechanical or automated machinery
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and updating capability on area equipment
  • Working knowledge of pneumatics and basic electrical
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication
  • English fluency required; Spanish bilingual preferred

Level 2

  • Meets Level 1 qualifications
  • Associate degree in a technical field and or significant experience, or apprenticeship completion with 2 to 3 years in automation
  • 4 to 6 years of related work, including automation, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting and repair
  • Proficiency navigating PLC and HMI software, connectivity, and fault isolation
  • Ability to modify Allen Bradley PLC code and update HMI applications
  • Experience optimizing vision sensor programs
  • Industrial robotics experience, ABB preferred, with minor program adjustments
  • Skilled reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and pneumatic or hydraulic diagrams

Level 3

  • Meets Level 2 qualifications
  • 7 or more years of progressive automation or maintenance with advanced programming and troubleshooting
  • Proven success rebuilding machines and integrating hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, and robotic subsystems
  • Advanced capability developing PLC ladder logic, HMI applications, and pneumatic or electrical diagrams
  • Expert at calibrating vision systems and executing advanced robot path edits
  • Knowledge of GD&T and metrology; able to contribute to design reviews and compliance for codes, safety, and maintainability

Physical requirements

  • Standing for 8 to 12 hours
  • Lift up to 35 pounds multiple times per hour
  • Frequent bending, twisting, turning, and lifting
  • Repetitive hand motions including gripping, grasping, pinching, and squeezing
