    Description

    Simmons is hiring an Industrial Electro-Mechanical Technician to join our team for our second shift. Simmons Knife & Saw is a leading manufacturer of high-quality band and reciprocating cutting blades since 1946. We proudly serve the foam, wood, pallet, leather, packaging, metal fabrication/machine shop, and food processing industries.

    The job will consist of 30% mechanical work and 70% electrical work (on average). This position reports into our Electro-Mechanical Supervisor and will work our 2nd shift, Monday through Friday.

    PURPOSE: To service, maintain, and upgrade existing production equipment and facilities. Build new machinery and ensure a safe workplace.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Diagnose and repair industrial production line equipment with minimal supervision and downtime. This includes troubleshooting and servicing machine control circuits, PLCs, AC/DC motors, sensors, pneumatic components, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, grinders and punch presses.
    • Complete work orders accurately and ensure all corrective maintenance activities are properly documented.
    • Collaborate with production personnel, maintenance technicians, and engineering staff to identify issues and coordinate effective solutions. Propose and implement design improvements to enhance equipment performance and reliability.
    • Conduct routine preventive maintenance to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with operational standards.
    • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, maintaining a clean and secure work environment. Actively contribute suggestions to improve workplace safety for all employees.
    • Must be able to work independently and self-manage during evening hours, as this shift extends later into the day and requires working without direct maintenance supervision for part of the shift.

    REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

    • 5+ years of hands-on experience in an industrial setting.
    • Strong mechanical knowledge and skills, including the use of common hand tools.
    • Troubleshoot machine control circuits including switches, relays, fuses, indicators, and sensors.
    • Interpret and work with electrical schematics (IEEE & IEC standards).
    • Read and understand technical drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
    • Diagnose and repair AC/DC motors, servo motors and stepper motors.
    • Proficient using electrical test instrumentation including multimeters and amp meters.
    • Listen, understand and communicate effectively.
    • Apply basic math skills including fractions, decimals, and measurement conversions.
    • Support spare parts inventory management.
    • Strong motivation to get things done, solve problems and learn and be able to do so independently when maintenance supervision isn't available.
    • Effective use of measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, thread gages, etc.
    • Comfortable with daily work involving 30% mechanical and 70% electrical.
    • Maintain clean and orderly workspace.
