Job Description

Standard Job Description

Conducts research and plans development and design of gas and solid state lasers, masers, infrared, and other light emitting and light sensitive devices. Designs electronic circuitry and optical components with specific characteristics to fit within specified mechanical limits and to perform according to specifications. May conduct application analysis to determine commercial, industrial, scientific, medical, military or other use for electro-optical devices.

Looking for an EO/IR engineer to join the team responsible for the electro-optical/infrared sensor systems on the F-35. This role covers the full lifecycle of fielded and next-generation EO/IR sensor hardware: turning sensor and test data into engineering decisions, owning hardware performance and reliability, and managing the configuration, obsolescence, and sustainment of the product from design through production and fleet support. You''ll work across a cross-functional team of systems, embedded, integration and test, and program management engineers, and act as a technical interface to our sensor suppliers and customers. It suits an engineer who is equally comfortable in a lab with hardware, in a dataset tracking down an anomaly, and in a review board defending a change.

What You''ll Do:

Sensor Data and Performance Analysis

  • Analyze EO/IR sensor data from lab, ground, and flight testing to characterize performance (e.g., NETD, MTF, uniformity, dynamic range, detection and track performance) and verify it against requirements.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines, scripts, and tools to ingest, process, and visualize large sensor and test datasets.
  • Investigate anomalies and field issues through root cause analysis, working back from data to hardware, firmware, or integration causes.
  • Define data collection plans and test conditions so that tests answer the right engineering questions.
  • Turn analysis into clear technical products: briefings, trend reports, and recommendations for leadership and customers.

Sensor Hardware Engineering

  • Support design, integration, qualification, and acceptance testing of sensor hardware and upgrades.
  • Work with suppliers on technical performance, design changes, failure analysis, and corrective action.
  • Support lab operations and hardware-in-the-loop integration with mission systems, displays, and processing.
  • Evaluate emerging sensor technologies and assess their fit for next-generation capability.

Product Lifecycle Management

  • Manage configuration of EO/IR hardware and associated data, including change requests, engineering change proposals, and configuration baselines.
  • Track and mitigate obsolescence (DMS) and supply chain risk for sensor components.
  • Monitor reliability and maintainability metrics from production and fleet data; drive improvements through FRACAS and corrective action.
  • Support the transition from development to production and sustainment, including production readiness, first article inspection, and qualification by similarity.
  • Contribute to technical cost, schedule, and risk inputs for program planning and Agile PI Planning.

Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor''s Degree in STEM discipline.
  • Experience in Project Management including.
  • Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
  • Experience in supplier management.
  • Experience leading and developing a multidisciplinary team.

Desired Skills

  • Technical leadership experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience presenting to internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Proven track record of building relationships, fostering collaboration and working cross-functionally with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience on F-35
  • Experience in conflict resolution, proactive communication, and building collaborative
  • Ability to work with different engineering disciplines to derive and decompose requirements.
  • Excellent presentation skills and must be able to convey focused messages to internal senior leadership and external customers.
