General Description

The Electromechanical Technician supports manufacturing operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing electrical, automation, controls, and mechanical systems within a cosmetic and personal care manufacturing environment. Working under the direction of the Controls Engineer, this position focuses on maximizing equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, supporting automation systems, and ensuring compliance with GMP, safety, and quality standards.

The Electromechanical Technician provides technical support for compounding, filling, labeling, packaging, cartoning, and automated production equipment while participating in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, safety, and production performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Equipment, Automation & Controls Support

  • Troubleshoot and repair electromechanical production equipment including filling, labeling, capping, cartoning, coding, conveying, and packaging machinery.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot conveyors, servo systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, actuators, and motion control systems.
  • Support PLC- and HMI-controlled manufacturing and packaging equipment.
  • Assist with diagnostics, modifications, upgrades, and optimization of automation systems.
  • Support commissioning, startup, testing, and validation of new and upgraded equipment.
  • Perform equipment changeovers and automation adjustments to support production requirements.

Electrical & Controls Maintenance

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, I/O drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.
  • Troubleshoot and repair motors, drives, control panels, safety circuits, relays, sensors, and electrical components.
  • Perform wiring repairs and component replacements in compliance with electrical codes and company standards.
  • Support troubleshooting of industrial communication and networking issues.
  • Assist with PLC diagnostics and minor programming modifications as authorized.

Mechanical Systems Maintenance

  • Maintain and repair pumps, mixers, conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, belts, chains, and mechanical drive systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic systems including valves, cylinders, regulators, FRLs, and air-operated equipment.
  • Support hydraulic system maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Perform equipment alignment, adjustments, fabrication, assembly, and installation activities.

Preventive Maintenance & Reliability

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities according to maintenance schedules.
  • Complete maintenance work orders accurately and timely through the CMMS system.
  • Document repairs, inspections, and parts usage.
  • Support root cause analysis investigations for recurring equipment failures.
  • Recommend equipment and process improvements that increase reliability and reduce downtime.

Quality, Safety & GMP Compliance

  • Perform all work in accordance with GMP, OSHA, company safety programs, and engineering standards.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, machine guarding, and confined space procedures.
  • Ensure equipment repairs comply with quality, validation, and documentation requirements.
  • Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits as required.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and inspection-ready work areas.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, Quality, and Operations teams.
  • Provide technical support during startups, troubleshooting events, and changeovers.
  • Assist in training operators on equipment operation and basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend improvements to equipment performance, safety, quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical degree, trade certification, or vocational training in Industrial Maintenance, Automation, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Electromechanical Technician, Industrial Maintenance Technician, Automation Technician, or related role.
  • Experience in cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceutical, food, beverage, or other GMP-regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Experience supporting automated packaging and manufacturing equipment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation systems.
  • Experience working with servo systems, VFDs, motors, sensors, and safety devices.
  • Ability to use multimeters, electrical test equipment, diagnostic tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Experience using CMMS systems and maintenance documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics, and manuals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and alternative schedules as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, and climb ladders for extended periods.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery and energized equipment.
  • Ability to use required PPE and safety equipment.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and tool usage.
