This Electronic Engineering Technician position provides engineering, design, and field support in Bonneville Power Administration (BPA)'s System Engineering (TEN) Project Engineering, Telecom (TENP) group. This includes fiber optics, analog/mobile radio, digital radio, power line carrier, operational telephone, microwave towers and antennas, emergency AC/DC power and UPS systems, communications buildings, multiplex equipment, and monitoring systems including alarm system, Fault Locating Acquisition Reporter (FLAR), microwave monitor, wide area networks used for operational data and network management. This position will provide engineering technician expertise, assisting project managers and other engineering personnel in implementing projects, supporting field maintenance crews, and other related engineering activities. Responsibilities + Assist in maintaining databases that support the production of electrical and electronic drawings and engineering documents. + Assist in preparing detailed design, material, and procurement specifications for telecommunications and related equipment. + Support the preparation of engineering designs and requirements for the development, installation, and modification of facilities by analyzing engineering requirements, project parameters, and technical information from multiple sources. + Draft and prepare telecommunications standard guides and templates for assigned projects to ensure consistency and quality. + Participate in site visits to support project scoping and design, verify equipment configurations at field sites, and document as-built conditions during project closeout. + Support responses to telecommunications engineering requests for information verification, including waveguide distances, antenna locations, and equipment spacing. + Review CAD and manually drafted drawings and related documents for drafting accuracy and completeness, providing feedback and making necessary corrections prior to engineering review. + Participate on teams and individually to research and document existing inventories of telecommunications and related equipment, including data entry, data clean-up, and coordination with local resource specialists. + Provide engineering technician expertise to support engineering design and field personnel in all aspects of project documentation. + Organize and analyze drawings prior to project set-up and discuss project complexity and time estimates with technical and supervisory personnel. + Draft designs from engineers' notes and rough sketches using electronic files, drawing stick files, and central records repositories. + Contribute to the development and revision of telecommunications drawing templates and standards. + Perform administrative engineering record maintenance, including obtaining new drawing numbers, entering drawing information into CAD databases at various stages, and completing forms to submit final drawings to central records. + Perform sub-system user file management within CAD systems, including plotting, printing, storing, retrieving, and returning drawings using tools such as ProjectWise. + Update and maintain the as-built file structure within ProjectWise and manage .pdf and related files as requested. + Prepare and draft detailed as-built drawings using MicroStation CAD software to accurately reflect field conditions. + Manage the submission of as-built drawings and documentation and assist in mentoring team members in the as-built process. + Draft and prepare drawing lists and drawing packages for digital signature and distribution to stakeholders. + Capture and update photographic records of physical equipment to support documentation and as-built records. + Scan and file facility documents and legacy/non-electronic prints into electronic systems for long-term retention. + Document and maintain filing systems, files, emails, and records in accordance with compliance requirements, ensuring documents are shared only with personnel who have a lawful purpose to know. + Maintain all official records in alignment with information security and information governance standards and procedures, validating that records are accurately maintained for auditing purposes. + Work collaboratively with project engineering, telecom, and other disciplines such as mechanical, architectural, structural, and substation engineering throughout project lifecycles. + Prioritize tasks, ask clarifying questions, and apply creative thinking to resolve technical and documentation challenges in a deadline-driven environment. Qualifications + Bachelor's or associate degree in electronic engineering or a closely related field is preferred. + 5 years of work experience in a technical or engineering environment with an applicable bachelor's degree. + 7 years of work experience in a technical or engineering environment with an applicable associate's degree. + 9 years of work experience in a technical or engineering environment without a degree or without an applicable degree. + Experience that demonstrates increasing knowledge and responsibility in a technical or engineering setting. + Proficiency in the use of CAD software for creating, reviewing, and updating engineering drawings. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Vancouver, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
