Established in 1980, the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, Inc. (GLFHC) is a multi-site, mission-driven, non-profit organization employing over 700 staff whose primary focus is providing the highest quality patient care to a culturally diverse population throughout the Merrimack Valley. Nationally recognized as a leader in community medicine (family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, and geriatrics), GLFHC has clinical sites in Lawrence, Methuen, and Haverhill and is the sponsoring organization for the Lawrence Family Medicine Residency program.

GLFHC is currently seeking an Electronic Health Record Educator to join our Information Systems Team. The EHR (Electronic Health Record) Educator is responsible for designing, maintaining, and delivering comprehensive training materials to support the effective use of electronic health record systems. This role includes providing onsite user support to address immediate needs, ensure smooth system adoption, and enhance user confidence. The EHR Educator develops instructional content, facilitates training sessions for diverse user groups, and assesses learning outcomes to promote optimal utilization of EHR technology. Collaboration with clinical, operational, technical, and administrative teams is essential to identify training needs, enhance user proficiency, and contribute to the continuous improvement of healthcare workflows.

Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards:

  • Develop curriculum and conduct training for new and existing staff on the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system and Practice Management Systems to support our front end and clinical staff.
  • Develop and maintain detailed policy and procedure manuals (electronic and paper) including functional flow diagrams for all patient revenue cycle functions and ensure training is conducted for all changes and/or updates.
  • Work with IS Applications team and department leadership to design training modules that directly reflect how each of the departments uses the system.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations in person including demonstrations, train-the-trainer and end user classes and special training courses as needed.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, rolls out training schedule for the year in coordination with new hire schedule.
  • Create, update and maintain policies and procedures and training manuals of the EMR system to support all patient access areas.
  • Ongoing work with the IS department on resolving issues for insurance eligibility via EMR.
  • Point person in all information system EMR upgrade testing for end users. Acts as liaison to the Information Services department.
  • Follow up with supervisors after trainings to provide feedback on new hire training.
  • Develop a refresher training curriculum.
  • Participate in GLFHC Help Desk supporting end users on EMR and practice management systems.
  • Participate in Outreach & Enrollment meetings for Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers.
  • Identify, develop and update competencies for staff, holding in-service training sessions as needed; and updating supervisors and managers of their employees' skills after each training session.
  • Identify areas of focus, issues and trends to make improvements to overall patient access processes. Identify any potential opportunities to increase workflow efficiency and establish implementation techniques.
  • Understand the complexities of health insurance plans e.g., Medicaid, Medicare, Connector Care, Commercial Insurance, sliding fee discount program, and self-pay. 

Qualifications:

 Experience

  • Three to five years of experience in health care.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
  • Experience with computerized billing systems. Knowledge of Athena EMR, preferred.
  • Proficient with Windows, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

 Education

  • Associates Degree in Business or related field preferred, combination of education and experience will be considered.

Greater Lawrence Family Health Center (GLFHC), a Federally Qualified Health Center with clinical sites in located in Lawrence and Methuen, Massachusetts, serves over 60,000 unique patients from Lawrence and the surrounding communities of Methuen, Andover, North Andover and Haverhill. It is the second-largest Federally Qualified Health Center in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

GLFHC is also home to the nationally-recognized Lawrence Family Medicine Residency (LFMR) program, the first family medicine residency program of its kind in the United States. The majority of LFMR graduates have either stayed at the health center or have chosen to stay working in low-income, underserved communities in Massachusetts and across the country. In FY2020, LFMR will be home to 42 residents who participate in one of the only 4-year programs in the country as part of a demonstration project conducted by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services.
