As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

This recruitment is open to current Disability Determination Services (DDS) employees only.

The Electronic Records Express Specialist supports the adjudication process by promoting the usage of the electronic records with medical providers. This position is responsible for promoting, supporting, and managing Electronic Records Express (ERE) processes within the State of Maryland DDS. This position serves as a liaison between the agency, medical and educational record providers, and internal staff to facilitate the use of electronic options such as the Electronic Records Express (ERE). The specialist provides training, troubleshooting, and outreach to ensure efficient and accurate transmission of medical evidence and related documentation. Â

Job Duties Include:Â Â

  • Register users including CE providers, MER providers, medical and educational record providers for the ERE website and provide comprehensive training.Â
  • Develop strategies for increasing the volume of medical evidence and educational records received electronically.Â
  • Develop and maintain relationships with consultative examination providers, treating physicians, and health information management staff at hospitals and clinics.Â
  • Maintain current knowledge of SSAâs existing electronic platform used to exchange medical evidence and school records.Â
  • Educate providers on options for receiving requests for evidence and submitting records to the DDS.Â
  • Monitor electronic outbound requests.Â
  • Identify problems with electronic inbound transmissions.Â
  • Coordinate updates to the Disability Case Processing System.Â
  • Analyze data and conduct studies of transmission problems.Â
  • Participate in DDS marketing initiatives and community outreach/education activities.Â
  • Educate school liaisons on the information needed to adjudicate childhood disability claims.Â
  • Provide training to new and current DDS staff on issues pertaining to electronic initiatives.Â
  • Independently coordinate the preparation, publication, and distribution of the annual MRO newsletters.Â
  • Oversee new projects designed to increase electronic medical evidence submissions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelorâs degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of professional or administrative experience in disability determination services, specifically assisting with, processing, or adjudicating Social Security Disability claims.Â

Notes:Â

  1. Candidates may substitute additional experience as defined above at the rate of one year of experience for each year of the required education.Â

  2. Candidates may substitute 30 graduate credits from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.Â

  3. The above requirements are set by the Maryland State Department of Education in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104, Annotated Code of Maryland.
