Position Summary and Qualifications

Responsible for the electric, electronic and SCADA operation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic circuits, equipment and instruments in the Wastewater and/or Water Treatment Plants and Lift Stations. This position has delegated authority and responsibility for supervising a small group of unskilled and/or semi-skilled employees involved in preventative maintenance activities. Works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, but often has to work independently in complex situations.

Must possess:

  • thorough knowledge and understanding of electronic controls and circuits to include the methods, practices, testing equipment, tools and equipment used in electrical repair and maintenance work.
  • general knowledge and understanding of pneumatic/hydraulic systems and Human Machine Interface (HMI) software.
  • thorough knowledge and understanding of motors, time meters, alarm systems, and other electrical and electronic equipment, programmable logic controllers, SCADA, and telemetry systems.
  • ability to troubleshoot, comprehend, and implement appropriate corrections to complex electronic and electrical control circuits quickly and thoroughly in adverse conditions.
  • ability to inspect, maintain and repair electrical equipment and controls and develop "as built" drawing of existing circuits. Ability to order and manage electrical inventory for repair / replacement of parts.
  • ability to plan, schedule, layout and implement electrical projects. Ability to verify calibration of flow, level and pressure transmitter.
  • thorough knowledge of the hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to medium voltage, electrical maintenance and repair work. Skilled in the safe use and care of tools and equipment of the electrical/electronic trade.
  • thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and standard safety precautions, safe work methods, FPUAs Safety Program and related safety devices associated in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater collection system and the ability to assure that employees comply with safe standards.
  • ability to recognize when the standard operating procedure will not work and possesses the ability to determine an alternate procedure to achieve the desired end result.
  • ability to keep accurate daily field reports and other paperwork and records as required and enters into computer, including ability to prepare accurate records showing sewer line conditions.
  • ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, construction plans, maps, schematics and GIS databases.
  • ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain harmonious relationships with Supervisor, customers, other employees, other departments, other governmental and regulatory agencies, and the general public as needed.
  • ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions or to work with minimum supervision.
  • ability to understand and follow quickly, and accurately, brief oral and written instruction on moderately complex matters.
  • ability to efficiently handle emergencies and multiple tasks simultaneously

  • ability to plan, lay-out, direct and supervise subordinates performing construction operation and maintenance functions of a wastewater collection system.

  • ability to maintain good job-related physical condition and health and sufficient physical strength to perform heavy, manual type labor encountered in the work area within the limits of sound safety practices.

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma accepted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Thorough knowledge of office software such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. Two years of experience in operating, maintaining and repairing electrical circuits, equipment and instruments and related electronic apparatus, including motor driven pumps, circuit breakers, control circuits and related electronic apparatus.

Identifies causes, and troubleshoots malfunctions, of electronic controllers and control circuits. Conducts a preventive maintenance program for electrical and electronic equipment. Makes visual inspections to determine proper operating condition.

Installs, calibrates, and maintains complex electronic process control equipment such as pressure, flow, level controllers, recorders, SCADA and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Installs, tests, and repairs electrical/electronic equipment such as AC/DC variable speed drives and motors, alarm systems, generators, solid-state and relay control systems, medium voltage switchgear and controllers.

Tests, installs and maintains the SCADA Computer System both master and remote stations. Maintain a functional knowledge of the operation of control system software and hardware.

Complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) Standards Requirements and all FPUA Standards requirements.

Assists Engineering Department(s) with ongoing/new projects.

Perform operational/visual inspections and testing to determine proper operating condition.

Installs, tests and/or repairs electrical/electronic equipment such as switches, receptacles, transmitters, motors, control devices, alarms, lighting, conduit and wiring according to prints and engineered specifications.

Effectively supervises and trains unskilled and semi-skilled employees as necessary in the performance of preventative maintenance activities.

Trains other personnel in the proper operation of control panels, telemetry units, generators and other electrical equipment.

HEALTH INSURANCE: Effective for employees and dependents on the first day of the month following completion of 30 days continuous service. FPUA pays most of employee premium and 71% of the dependent premium.

DENTAL INSURANCE - Becomes effective for employees and dependents on the first day of the month following completion of 30 days continuous service. FPUA pays 100% of employee premium and 60% of the dependent premium.

VISION - Becomes effective for employees and dependents on the first day of the month following completion of 30 days continuous service. FPUA pays 100% of employee premium eye care coverage for employees and a portion for their family members, including eye exams, glasses, contact lenses, etc.

LIFE INSURANCE - TERM (EMPLOYEES ONLY) - Life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment policy equal to 1x employees annual salary. Employees may also purchase, on a voluntary basis, additional life insurance through payroll deduction in $10,000 increments up to $100,000.

LONG TERM DISABILITY - Employees out for more than 90 days due to a disabling injury or illness will receive 60% of wage, up to $4,500 per month.
