    Description

    Build zero-defect electronics from concept to production

    At Burton EMS in Ironwood, MI, you’ll merge technical rigor with a lifestyle rich in outdoor adventure. Our site sits off the Iron Belle Trail and the Gogebic Range Trail System, with quick access to Lake Superior, five downhill ski resorts, and miles of cross-country, snowshoe, and bicycle routes.     Your mission

    Under the guidance of the Director of Engineering, you will verify that every product meets functional, industry, and customer requirements. You’ll design and refine manufacturing test processes, perform root-cause analysis, and translate specifications into reliable assemblies, ensuring robust builds at each production stage.

    Core impact areas

    • Define, document, run, and interpret tests with cross-functional engineering; highlight functional issues and drive solutions.
    • Architect test methods and build test fixtures/apparatus to validate functionality against standards and customer specs.
    • Plan the manufacturing test flow to prove conformance, then execute functional testing on systems, subassemblies, and parts.
    • Triage malfunctions; coordinate continuous improvements to fixtures and procedures that eliminate defects.
    • Provide customer-facing design support: Gerber modifications and PCB layout using in-house tools.
    • Convert product specifications into assembly designs ready for production.

    Manufacturability and supplier collaboration

    • Deliver manufacturing reviews to Program Management and Business Development; confirm process flow and adherence to customer documentation.
    • Create panel designs; manage communication and approvals with PCB providers.
    • Contribute to component selection and alternatives via quoting, ECRs, and BOM creation; relay DFM feedback and solutions with PM/Business Development.

    Quality stewardship

    • Ensure compliance with ISO requirements and quality system directives (Quality Manual, SOPs, Work Instructions).
    • Prevent, identify, and record nonconformities in product, process, and systems.
    • Initiate and recommend corrective actions; verify their effectiveness.
    • Hold processing, delivery, or installation of nonconforming products until resolved.

    Qualifications

    • Preferred: 4-year degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field.
    • Capacity to track numerous design parameters and technical attributes during design and component testing.
    • Proactive drive to complete work quickly and accurately.
    • Team-oriented communication skills to ensure manufacturing plans are executed as intended.
    • Advanced mathematics, including calculus, to design, analyze, and troubleshoot equipment and processes.
    • Strong presentation skills to explain reasoning and guide development/production.
    • Technical writing experience for methods, proposals, BOMs/parts lists, operation and maintenance manuals.
