Job Summary
The Electronic Technician Trainee is responsible for ensuring the timely maintenance, repair, testing, and delivery of electronic and electromechanical equipment to support operational requirements. This role focuses on improving equipment reliability, minimizing maintenance-related downtime, and increasing maintenance efficiency through adherence to preventive maintenance programs, standardized work processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Description
- Perform maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic and electromechanical equipment, including rotary control units and related systems.
- Assemble and build mechanical and electronic components, such as bearing packs.
- Use diagnostic and measuring equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, calipers, and other hand tools, to identify and resolve equipment issues.
- Conduct equipment testing, including flow loop testing, and perform basic programming tasks as required.
- Maintain assigned equipment in accordance with preventive maintenance programs, reliability-centered maintenance strategies, and standardized work procedures.
- Accurately document maintenance activities, work orders, parts usage, labor, equipment movements, and maintenance history using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other business systems.
- Support equipment turnaround objectives by reducing downtime through efficient maintenance and repair practices.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on asset utilization, maintenance efficiency, cost reduction, and productivity improvements.
- Assist with failure investigations and implement corrective actions as assigned.
- Support repair-and-reuse initiatives and other cost-of-service improvement projects.
- Work within assigned production workstations and rotate responsibilities as needed.
- Meet production and maintenance performance targets while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Follow all applicable maintenance procedures, operational standards, and safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Shift: 1st Shift 7:00 am - 5:00 pm, weekend rotation and extended hours required
Skills Required
- Proficiency using multimeters, oscilloscopes, calipers, measuring devices, and basic hand tools.
- Basic knowledge of electronic systems with mechanical aptitude.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to navigate computerized maintenance and business systems.
- Ability to read and follow technical documentation, procedures, and work instructions.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift equipment and work around mechanical systems as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with rotary steerable systems or similar oilfield equipment.
- Soldering experience (ISO certifications are a plus but not required).
- Experience working in industrial maintenance or equipment repair environments.
Education
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
- OR Associate degree or 2-year technical degree in Electronics Technology
- OR Military maintenance experience
Additional requirements
- Industrial maintenance shop environment with exposure to oil, grease, drilling mud, and field-returned equipment.
- This is not a laboratory or clean-room setting.
- Requires wearing coveralls, safety footwear, eye protection, and other required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Pay rate
- $20 - $23.50 per hour (Compensation is offered based on experience, skills, and market factors)
