Perform assembly, connecting, wiring, and soldering operations on printed circuit boards, cables, electro-mechanical assemblies, and subassemblies associated with first piece prototype, limited production equipment or production runs. This is to be done will working under the direction of higher classified personnel or from detailed information and to applicable quality standards.
Working Procedure:
- Plan working procedure and determine assembly sequence. Assemble and wire electrical and mechanical parts to electro-mechanical subassemblies and wire electrical components in assemblies. Build cable assemblies, cut wire to length using sketches and drawings.
- Identify and install components on P.C. boards and substrate, forming and soldering leads, cementing components, connecting, and soldering jumper wires, working from detailed manufacturing information, drawings, or direction of higher classified personnel.
- Perform circuit check on completed assemblies. Report discrepancies to appropriate personnel.
- Perform refurbishments and modifications from detailed information. Perform bench repair on identified defective items, such as rewiring incorrect connections, removing and replacing defective wires and components, re-soldering connections, redressing and retying cables and the like. Execute engineering changes from revision notices and make any repairs including adding or removing wires and adding or removing components and parts.
- Layout and drill holes, counter bore, saw, cut out and the like. Assemble various mechanical parts, panels, doors, covers and the like, file, and shim as necessary to obtain final fit.
- Maintain competence in all applicable manufacturing information and skills requirements.
- For development and training, incumbent should become familiar with other skills by assisting higher classified personnel. Perform duties or position at manufacturing or in field.
- Layout and modify simple brackets, angles, and chassis.
- Record and annotate any drawing discrepancies. Forward all this information to the appropriate engineering personnel.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education Requirement: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience Requirement: A minimum of three years’ experience in electrical assembly and wiring and soldering of electro/mechanical assemblies. Must be able to read drawings and wiring diagrams. Previous soldering certification preferred.
