Electronics Engineer
Location: Onsite Foster City, CA (5 days/week in office)
Travel: Local travel within the Bay Area is required to support vehicle testing sites and prototype facilities
Job Overview
We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Electronics Engineer to support the assembly, bring-up, rework, and functional testing of automotive PCBAs, control panels, and custom wiring harnesses for autonomous vehicles. Based fully onsite at our Foster City facility, you will work directly with Electrical Engineers to build and verify prototype vehicle electronics while serving as the primary lead for electronics lab operations.
In this role, you will manage component inventory, oversee high-value test equipment tracking, and travel locally within the Bay Area as needed to support rapid engineering iteration and vehicle testing cycles with zero operational downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- PCBA Assembly & SMT Rework: Build, bring up, inspect, and perform fine-pitch SMT/PTH rework on multilayer printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) under high-power microscopes.
- Harness & Panel Fabrication: Build, modify, and repair automotive-grade wire harnesses using industry-standard connectors (TE, Molex, Deutsch). Assemble and wire electrical control panels, industrial rack systems, and test benches.
- Hardware Bring-Up & Functional Testing: Conduct detailed visual and electrical inspections of PCBAs and cable assemblies using lab tools (DMMs, oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, electronic loads) to verify functionality and trace faults.
- Electronics Lab Ownership: Maintain and optimize electronics lab workspaces, tools, and equipment. Manage component inventory, connectors, and consumables to prevent stockouts during rapid development sprints.
- Asset Tracking & Procurement: Create and maintain intake, checkout, and lending workflows for high-value test equipment, prototype hardware, and outbound shipments to external vehicle testing sites.
- Onsite & Regional Support: Provide daily 5-day onsite lab coverage in Foster City and travel within the Bay Area as needed to support prototype vehicle installations and field testing.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience in electronic product assembly, PCBA bring-up, and prototype hardware testing.
- Location & Work Schedule: Ability to work onsite 5 days a week in Foster City, CA, with a valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally within the Bay Area.
- Soldering & Rework Mastery: Exceptional hand-soldering and fine-pitch SMT rework skills under a microscope, working with small SMD components and multilayer boards.
- Harnessing & Schematics: Proficient in reading electrical schematics, engineering BOMs, and wire lists, with experience building automotive-grade wire harnesses.
- Lab Equipment Skills: Fluent in operating basic electronic test equipment (Digital Multimeters, DC Power Supplies, Electronic Loads, Oscilloscopes).
- Quality & Communication: Excellent technical documentation skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive, clean work style leading to low field defect rates.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with safety-critical electronics designed for harsh operational environments (automotive, aerospace, defense, or robotics).
- Familiarity with PCB design and CAD tools (Altium Designer, KiCAD, or SolidWorks).
- Basic diagnostic capability for automotive electrical systems, CAN bus/Ethernet interfaces, or Linux environments.
- Experience with issue tracking and documentation software (Jira, Confluence).
