As an Electronics Engineering Intern, you''ll work alongside experienced engineers on the power and control hardware behind S&C''s automation, protection, and switching products, including the 6800 Controls platform and IntelliRupter. This is a hands-on, closely mentored internship built for a student who is still learning the profession. You''ll be an entry-level contributor on a project or work team, supporting real hardware projects under the guidance of a design engineer while you build practical skills in circuit design, lab work, and testing. Work is closely supervised, the problems you''ll tackle are meaningful but not complex, and the goal is your own growth and development as much as the work you deliver.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:
In-progress degree program from an accredited university/college program with a concentration in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field, having completed at least the sophomore year by summer 2027.
Coursework in circuit analysis, electronics, or digital systems, with a working understanding of basic electrical engineering fundamentals.
Some hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies, from coursework, projects, or clubs.
Familiarity with at least one analysis or programming tool such as Python, MATLAB, or a SPICE-based circuit simulator.
Good problem-solving instincts and a willingness to investigate the underlying cause of an issue rather than just the symptom.
Good communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) and comfort asking questions and sharing information with the team.
Eagerness to learn, take direction and feedback, and take ownership of your own development.
Ability to work onsite in Chicago for the summer and to work well in a collaborative, fast-paced team environment.
Comfort with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Any of the following will be viewed favorably, but is not a requirement:
Personal, club, or capstone projects involving circuit design, PCB layout, embedded systems, or robotics.
Exposure to power electronics topics such as power supplies, batteries, or motor drives.
Experience with an ECAD tool such as OrCAD, KiCad, Altium, or an equivalent.
Coursework or interest in power systems, protection and control, or the electric utility industry.
Familiarity with microcontrollers, FPGAs, or common board-level interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART).
Prior internship, co-op, or lab assistant experience in an engineering setting.
