SUMMARY

The Electronics Technician I performs basic diagnosis repairs and modifications to electronics systems. This position performs the required periodic maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and testing of equipment as required. The Technician will assist Senior Technicians in the setup, maintenance, and storage of airfield systems and deep-field camp systems that support aviation operations and weather observing.

This is a limited-term assignment.

This position deploys to McMurdo Station, Antarctica to conduct work locally. The United States Antarctica Program requires all personnel deploying to Antarctica to pass a physical qualification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Systems Maintenance General Requirements

Reports the operational readiness, capabilities, limitations, and reliability of installed systems.

Maintains and verifies work center safety requirements and equipment.

Submits work requests for facility repairs in accordance with individual site processes.

Collects and maintains accurate records including but not limited to equipment maintenance logs, equipment certifications records, and inventory.

Conducts reviews of available test equipment, its condition, calibration status, and requirements

it is meeting.

Calibrates and repairs sensors and test equipment.

Provides general assistance for preparation of point papers, various analyses, briefs, work group

participation and other management-related tasks.

Documents and archives all maintenance actions either in a government provided computer-based tool, spreadsheet program, or hand-written log.

Adherences to applicable configuration control policy and procedures.

Adherences to applicable security policy and procedures.

Schedules and conducts necessary training including Pre-Deployment Ground School, on-site training, and others identified in the contractor's training plan.

Maintains an accurate tool inventory of government-owned tools.

Maintains current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification for all technicians.

Provides estimated airlift needs to meet maintenance requirements prior to the beginning of each operational season.

Adheres to frequency management policies and procedures.

Ensures inventory of spare parts/components is accurate and adequate.

Conducts authorized modification, installation, and removal of equipment.

Prepares / updates drawings and other technical documentation to reflect system/equipment status and changes.

Prepares routine and special reports.

Follows all applicable safety requirements.

Supports flight checks/certifications of airfield systems.

Ensuring all assigned equipment operates/functions in accordance with applicable technical specifications/operational directives.

Ensures all Full-Time technicians meet all deployment requirements for deploying to a USAP station.

Verifies that all technicians who deploy to Antarctica possess a valid driver's license.

Technicians will obtain and maintain qualification to operate light vehicles at USAP stations unless otherwise stated in a TO.

Provides maintenance support availability up to 24 hours per day and 7 days per week at McMurdo Station and surrounding airfields with specified support requirements identified in each.

Provides maintenance support for systems that will require technicians to fly to locations in helicopters, light airplanes or cargo aircraft.

Maintains a written Master Station Log (MSL) of maintenance activity and equipment status, changes, or significant events.

Measures and reports operational availability (Ao) of systems.

Maintains and follows procedures for reporting system outages including report times, report type, content, and necessary follow-up reports.

Develops and provides reports (CDRL A004) such as incident, accident and other post action emergent reports by the due dates specified in controlling directives, instructions, and/or as specified by the Government.

Maintains systems in accordance with applicable DoD or non-DoD information security requirements.

Navigational Aids (NAVAIDS) Systems Support

Providing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of NAVAIDS. Specific NAVAIDS equipment will vary from site to site but in general will be consistent with the following table:

  • Typical NAVAIDS and Ancillary Equipment
  • TACAN Precision Landing Systems (currently MLS)
  • Visual Landing Systems (i.e., REILS, PAPI, etc.)
  • Power backup and conditioning equipment
  • Control Systems/user interface
  • equipment
  • Test and calibration equipment

Ensures proper NAVAIDS sighting and installation in accordance with applicable instructions.

Initiates requests for flight checks in accordance with established processes.

Ensures voice recording/data-recording media is managed and secured in accordance with

established directives.

Ensures the necessary level of certified technicians are present to setup, maintain, and remove

current NAVAIDS at McMurdo Station or other airfields.

Communications Systems (COM) Support

Provides scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of communications systems.

Specific communications equipment will vary but in general will be consistent with the equipment

types identified in the following table:

  • Typical COM Systems and Ancillary Equipment
  • UHF/VHF ATC transmitters and receivers
  • ATC Voice Switches
  • UHF/VHF emergency/backup transceivers
  • MILSATCOM terminals
  • Portable Emergency radios Voice recorders
  • Radio to IP interfaces and switching equipment
  • Windows-based communications control systems, hardware and software
  • Miscellaneous wireless point-to-point circuits
  • Miscellaneous serial-to-IP modems
  • Miscellaneous interconnecting cabling, wiring, fiber, jack-fields and patch panels RF cabling, switches, and antennas

Ensures proper communications systems installations in accordance with applicable instructions.

Maintains communications circuit access during contingency/backup operations.

Complies with frequency management processes.

Ensures the necessary level of certified technicians are present to setup, maintain, and remove

current communications systems at McMurdo Station and surrounding airfields in accordance with individual TOs.

Provides assistance to other technicians on communications components, devices, or sub-systems within NAVAIDS and Meteorology systems.

Meteorology (MET) Systems Support

Provides scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of meteorology systems. Specific

meteorology equipment will vary but in general will be consistent with the equipment types

identified in the following table:

  • Typical MET Systems and Ancillary Equipment
  • Fixed-base meteorology systems Portable or expeditionary sensor kits and systems
  • Upper-air sounding systems Experimental sensor kits and systems
  • Miscellaneous weather sensors (e.g anemometers, pressure, temperature, etc.)
  • Miscellaneous displays, data loggers, and raw data
  • transmission devices
  • Visual display systems for measured or modeled weather data
  • Web-based presentation of data and reports
  • renewable energy charging systems (e.g., solar and wind)
  • Miscellaneous serial-to-IP modems
  • Miscellaneous interconnecting
  • cabling, wiring, fiber, jack-fields and patch panels
  • Data transport systems and networks

Maintains certified technicians to setup, maintain, and remove current meteorology systems at

McMurdo Station and surrounding airfields in accordance with individual TOs.

Attends necessary safety training and performing maintenance and repair on systems away from the normal work center such as at deep field camps or other remote automated observation stations.

Performs other qualified duties as assigned.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.

Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance with all applicable rules (federal, state, local, Federal Acquisition Regulations, Code of Federal Regulations, Prime Contract requirements, etc.) for themselves and the company as a whole. Fosters an environment in which they will report any violations or reasonably suspected violation of CNI policy, FAR, and/or CFR and are comfortable discussing the myriad compliance, conflict, FAR, CFR, etc. issues that arise during the performance of a government contract.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with zero to two (0-2) years experience. Formal training from a Technical School or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

A valid USA passport is required and is reimbursable.

Must be able to obtain a T1 Clearance through the government customer.

Must pass internal background checks.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Knowledge and experience performing hardware maintenance, including replacing and/or repairing hard drives, motherboards, video cards, RAM, CPU, monitors, power supplies, network cards, printers and other peripherals.
