    Job Description

On-site • R&D Laboratory • Cybersecurity Hardware and Software Systems

    Position Summary

We are a fast-paced, dynamic startup in the high-growth cybersecurity industry. Our products support government and commercial applications, and we are seeking an Electronics Technician to play a critical role in our R&D laboratory. This position combines precision electronics assembly with true bench-level troubleshooting and repair of custom electronic systems.

The successful candidate is more than a production assembler or bench operator. They will have hands-on technical training or equivalent work experience using schematics, electronic test equipment, and PCB/CAD documentation to isolate faults, verify repairs, and support engineering development. The role works closely with on-site and remote development teams and requires a disciplined, methodical approach to quality and documentation.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assemble, modify, rework, and inspect electronic assemblies and cable/wiring harnesses to engineering drawings, schematics, bills of material, and workmanship standards.
    • Perform bench-level troubleshooting of custom PCBAs and electronic sub-systems—not limited to visual inspection or simple pass/fail testing.
    • Use digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, signal generators, and other laboratory equipment to measure signals, verify operation, and isolate faults.
    • Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, datasheets, test procedures, and PCB/CAD layout documentation to trace circuits and identify component- or net-level issues.
    • Debug and rework fine-pitch and small passive components, including resistors, capacitors, diodes, and similar devices down to 0402 package size, using appropriate ESD-safe soldering and rework techniques.
    • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software, and systems engineers to test new designs, reproduce failures, identify root causes, and verify corrective actions.
    • Configure, integrate, and test bench systems containing custom hardware and software across Windows and Linux environments.
    • Repair and update hardware and software sub-systems for laboratory use, field demonstrations, and customer or partner engagements.
    • Build and validate prototype and demonstration systems, maintaining accurate configuration control for hardware, firmware, software, and test fixtures.
    • Document test setups, symptoms, measurements, troubleshooting steps, modifications, and results so work can be reproduced by others.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, ESD-controlled, and safety-conscious laboratory environment.

    Required Qualifications

    • Must be a US Citizen
    • Hands-on electronics technician education, military technical training, trade schooling, or equivalent professional experience in an electronics laboratory or repair environment.
    • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting electronic circuits using schematics and test equipment, including oscilloscopes and digital multimeters.
    • Practical experience with PCBA rework, soldering, inspection, and repair of small components at or near the 0402 level.
    • Ability to use PCB layout/CAD documentation to locate components, trace nets, understand board revisions, and support circuit-level debugging.
    • Ability to distinguish symptoms from root causes and follow a disciplined, evidence-based troubleshooting process.
    • Experience reading technical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, datasheets, and engineering change documentation.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workmanship, product quality, ESD control, and accurate documentation.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with on-site and remote engineering teams.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with prototype development, engineering builds, failure analysis, or environmental/functional testing.
    • Experience with Linux command-line tools, serial interfaces, Ethernet, USB, or other hardware/software integration tasks.
    • Experience with Altium, KiCad, OrCAD, Eagle, or another PCB design/layout environment.
    • Experience maintaining test fixtures, lab instruments, configuration records, and controlled build documentation.

    Success in This Role

Success means producing clean, reliable assemblies while independently investigating electrical problems at the bench. The technician should be comfortable moving from a schematic or PCB layout to a measurement, from a measurement to a hypothesis, and from a repair to documented verification. This role is intended for a hands-on electronics technician with real circuit-debugging capability—not solely an assembly operator who performs basic visual checks or simple debugging.

    Work Environment

This is an on-site role in an R&D laboratory. The position may support prototype builds, system integration, customer or partner demonstrations, and occasional field-oriented preparation. Candidates must be comfortable working with sensitive electronic equipment, ESD controls, small components, and multiple concurrent development efforts.
