DESCRIPTION
Madison District Public Schools is seeking a full-time Art Teacher at the elementary level for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will inspire a love for the arts, integrate art history and cultural perspectives, and foster a classroom environment that encourages experimentation, problem-solving, and critical thinking. They will be committed to supporting students of all ability levels and using a variety of mediums, techniques, and technologies to enhance learning.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate in Art Instruction, LQ Endorsement
- Knowledge of art education pedagogy and Michigan Academic Standards for Visual Arts.
- Ability to work with students across a range of artistic abilities and grade levels.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, prepare, and deliver visual arts lessons aligned with state and district standards.
- Teach techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital media, and other art forms.
- Incorporate art history, cultural traditions, and contemporary art into instruction.
- Organize and display student artwork for school and community exhibitions.
- Maintain art supplies, tools, and classroom organization in a safe and accessible manner.
- Assess student progress using a variety of methods and provide constructive feedback.
- Foster an inclusive and respectful classroom culture where all students feel valued.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and community partners to promote the arts.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school events.
