Position: Art Teacher

  • Reports to: Building Principal

Qualifications.

  • Shall be a graduate of a recognized college or university.
  • Shall hold a valid Michigan Teachers, K-12 with Art (LX) endorsement
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents.

Desirable Qualifications.

  • Prior experience teaching secondary Art, specifically ceramics, painting and sculpture.
  • Ability to work democratically with others with a positive/professional attitude.
  • Strong work ethic with excellent work habits.
  • Willingness to coach intramural teams and/or advise school related clubs/activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities.

  • Teaches district approved curriculum
  • Differentiates instruction.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques within a multi-tiered system of support consistent with the needs and capabilities of all students.
  • Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences and other ways that meet the needs of the students.
  • Establishes and maintains reasonable standards and procedures for pupil behavior within a positive behavior intervention system to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, provides an appropriate response to needed interventions, and keeps accurate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Identifies pupil needs and as needed makes appropriate referrals for student assistance as needed and collaborates to develop strategies for individual education plans as needed.
  • Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers and exhibits of student's work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
