Position Summary:

St. Joseph Public Schools is seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a resource room setting. This position focuses on developing students' academic, behavioral, communication, and social-emotional skills to promote success in both specialized and general education environments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, individualized, and small-group instruction aligned to students' IEP goals, using research-based and evidence-based practices specific to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), serving as case manager and ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
  • Design, adapt, and differentiate curriculum and instruction to address students' academic, behavioral, sensory, social-emotional, and functional needs
  • Implement positive behavior intervention plans and classroom management strategies; collect and analyze data to monitor progress and inform instruction
  • Assess student performance using formal and informal measures to guide instructional decisions and IEP development
  • Collaborate with general education staff, related service providers, and families to support inclusion, accommodations, and overall student success
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, needs, and programming
  • Utilize adaptive and instructional technology to enhance student engagement and learning
  • Support students in developing independence, including transitions, routines, self-help, and functional life skills
  • Supervise, train, and direct paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress monitoring, compliance records, and Medicaid billing requirements
  • Create and maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
