TITLE: Elementary Assistant Principal
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: NJ Principal Certification
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principal
SUPERVISES: Elementary Staff
DURATION: 12-Month Position
FUNCTION: Responsible for certain areas of curriculum and supervises other aspects of Pre-School and elementary operation as assigned
EVALUATION: Performance in this area will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board Policy, administrative directive and be consistent with the terms and conditions of employment
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the development and implementation of the preschool budget, preschool program plan, annual updates and professional development plans
- Contribute to the development of long range facilities plans
- Supervise registration, recruitment and outreach efforts
- Assist with overseeing contractual compliance with private provider and local Head Start agencies
- Collaborate and communicate with the school district office of special services
- Facilitate transitions initiatives in collaboration with other preschool through third grade administrators
- Meet regularly with private providers, including local Head Start agencies, to foster collaboration and program implementation including, but not limited to, fiscal and curriculum information
- Assist with overseeing the implementation of the comprehensive preschool curriculum
- Providing assistance to all staff responsible for the implementation of appropriate early childhood practices within the preschool and K-2 elementary programs
- Adminstering strategies designed to help teachers and other professionals optimize children''s learning and development in all domains
- Ensuring that each private provider and local Head Start agency implements a system for classroom teacher observations
- Assist with coordinating annual program evaluation
- Act for the Principal when the Principal is not available
- Act as primary administrator for the computer database management system
- Coordinate all procedures for interim reports and report cards for preschool and K-2
- Prepare all necessary materials for Pre-K and Kindergarten orientation and beginning of school, including summer mailings and summer newsletters
- Assist in the implementation of the elementary curriculum
- Assist the professional staff members in improving their teaching techniques
- Visit classrooms, observe and assist the chief academic officer and elementary principals in the evaluation of the professional staff
- Maintain storage areas and inventories for textbooks/supplies
- Assist in planning field trips, visitations, assemblies, speakers and school-wide programs
- Oversee the daily check-in of teachers and give substitute teachers the necessary instruction for the day
- Submit reports to the Chief Academic Officer as directed
- Be present at after-school and evening activities as directed by the Chief Academic Officer and elementary principals
- Perform all other duties and activities as directed by the Chief Academic Officer and elementary principals
- Will communicate with students'' families to provide necessary information regarding their child
- Submit a report to the principal monthly which summarizes the accomplishments of the previous month and indicates future plans. The report will include a statistical report of discipline cases; for both regular and special education students
- Perform all other duties and activities as directed by the Principal
- Monitor compliance with the Code of Conduct
- Complete weekly absentee reports, send absentee letters and communicate with families regarding truancy
