Elementary English Learner (EL) Teacher - 2026-27

Position Summary

The Elementary English Learner (EL) Teacher provides high-quality English language development instruction and support to multilingual learners in grades K-5. The EL Teacher collaborates with classroom teachers and administrators to ensure students have equitable access to grade-level curriculum while developing English language proficiency. Services include both push-in and pull-out instruction based on students'' language proficiency levels and individual needs. The EL Teacher also oversees required state assessments, maintains compliance with federal and state regulations, and serves as a resource for educators working with multilingual learners.

Essential Responsibilities

• Instruction and Student Support
• Provide direct English language development (ELD) instruction through a combination of push-in and pull-out service models.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to support multilingual learners'' access to grade-level curriculum and classroom instruction.
• Differentiate instruction based on students'' English language proficiency levels and academic needs.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction using assessment data and classroom performance.
• Foster an inclusive learning environment that values students'' linguistic and cultural assets.
• Assessment and Compliance
• Administer required English learner assessments, including WIDA Screener and ACCESS for ELLs.
• Assist with the identification, placement, and monitoring of English learners in accordance with DESE and federal requirements.
• Maintain accurate student records, assessment data, service logs, progress monitoring documentation, and compliance paperwork.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Learning Plans and participate in Student Support Team meetings as appropriate.
• Collaboration and Coaching
• Partner with classroom teachers to plan instruction, analyze student data, and implement effective instructional strategies for multilingual learners.
• Provide coaching and consultation to educators regarding language acquisition, instructional best practices, scaffolding techniques, and culturally responsive teaching.
• Participate in grade-level teams, professional learning communities, and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Collaborate with specialists, counselors, administrators, and families to support student success.

Family Engagement

• Build positive relationships with multilingual families.
• Communicate with families regarding student progress and school programs using translation and interpretation services as needed.
• Support family engagement activities that promote meaningful participation in the school community.
• Professional Responsibilities
• Maintain current knowledge of second language acquisition research, instructional best practices, and DESE requirements.
• Participate in professional development and district initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services or designee.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensure as a Teacher of English as a Second Language (PreK-6 or PreK-12).
• Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition and sheltered English immersion (SEI) practices.
• Experience providing both push-in and pull-out English learner services preferred.
• Experience administering WIDA assessments preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of Massachusetts English Learner Education regulations and WIDA English Language Development Standards.
• Ability to analyze assessment data to inform instruction.
• Ability to coach and support classroom teachers in implementing effective instructional practices for multilingual learners.
• Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to collaborative problem solving.
