Position Overview
As the Elementary School Counselor, you will support students from Four-Year-Old Kindergarten (4K) through 5th grade. You will play a vital role in cultivating a positive school culture, providing direct student support, and collaborating with families and staff to ensure every student feels safe, valued, and ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Counseling: Deliver impactful individual and small-group counseling sessions to support students'' social, emotional, and behavioral development.
Classroom Guidance: Design and facilitate engaging classroom guidance lessons for grades 4K-5, focusing on character education, emotional regulation, and social skills.
Behavior Intervention: Actively participate in behavioral intervention teams, helping to create, implement, and monitor positive behavior support plans.
Collaboration: Work closely and collaboratively with teachers, administration, and support staff to address student needs and promote a holistic approach to student well-being.
Family & Community Engagement: Maintain open, proactive communication with parents and guardians to bridge the gap between home and school life.
Qualifications & Requirements
Enthusiastic & Student-Centered: A genuine passion for working with elementary-aged children and a commitment to putting student needs first.
Flexible & Adaptable: Ability to thrive in a dynamic school environment and provide strategies to meet evolving student and school needs.
Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to build trust with students, families, and colleagues.
Licensure: Must hold (or be eligible to obtain) the appropriate Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) School Counselor license.
The Bangor School District is a small, rural school district located conveniently on the interstate between La Crosse and Sparta. We have two school buildings on our campus that house our Elementary School and the Middle/High School. The pride in our Bangor schools and community is evident throughout our schools. We recently completed a $24,000,000 building project that has seen major improvements in all three of our district buildings and has created a special education suite in our elementary school designed to best meet our student''s needs and provide an incredible learning enviornment for all of our students!
