Elementary Instructional Coach

Primary Function: The Elementary Instructional Coach serves as a school-based leader dedicated to increasing teacher capacity, collective efficacy, and improving student learning outcomes across all content areas. This role focuses on identifying, developing, and implementing research-based instructional strategies, assessments, and curriculum goals. By working individually and with grade-level teams, the coach facilitates professional growth through modeling, co-planning, and data analysis to ensure high-quality instruction for every student.

Qualifications â Education & Experience:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in education and valid state of Michigan teaching certificate
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience at the elementary level.
  • Prior experience with Cognitive Coaching or a commitment to complete four (4) days of foundational training within the first year.
  • Deep understanding of state standards and best practices across all elementary disciplines (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies).
  • Advanced skills in using data systems (e.g., eduClimber, Illuminate) to inform Tier 1 instruction and targeted intervention strategies.
  • Proven ability to function as a teacher leader, gaining the trust and support of elementary teachers.
  • Strong grasp of child development and the ability to apply that knowledge to the selection of curriculum materials and instructional practices.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Support & Mentorship

  • Partner with teachers through coaching, collaborating, modeling, and mentoring to refine instructional delivery.

  • Conduct classroom demonstrations to illustrate effective teaching practices and student engagement strategies.

  • Assist teachers in applying research-based strategies to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of all students.

  • Professional Learning & Leadership

  • Design and lead professional learning opportunities for staff and administrators that align with school and district improvement goals.

  • Actively participate as an advisor and facilitator in grade-level and department meetings to ensure a focus on student growth.

  • Assist in the development and refinement of DK-5 curriculum, including the creation of assessment timelines and pacing calendars.

  • Data & Assessment

  • Guide teachers in collecting and analyzing classroom and district data to inform daily instruction and long-term planning.

  • Utilize data to help teams identify student knowledge gaps and develop targeted goals for individual student success.

  • Provide training and troubleshooting for district systems (e.g., PowerSchool, Schoology, eduClimber).

  • Collaboration & Integration

  • Assist teachers in integrating district-approved technology into planning, student learning, and progress reporting.

  • Work with teachers and support staff to develop a library of best practices and shared resources.

  • Collaborate with building principals and the Director of Curriculum & Instruction to ensure alignment with the district's mission and vision.

  • Openly support and abide by all school policies and procedures.

  • Maintain regular and predictable in-person attendance.

  • Support the OCS vision and mission.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary: Per Oxford Education Association Salary Schedule
