Qualifications

Required

  • Valid Delaware Teaching Certification in Elementary Education and/or Special Education (or eligibility).
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and intervention practices.
  • Experience analyzing student achievement data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred

Position Overview

Sussex Academy seeks a dynamic and student-centered educator to serve as an Elementary Interventionist / Grade-Level Lead Teacher. This position plays a critical role in advancing the school's vision to be a premier Kâ12 school system in the state of Delaware by supporting a culture of academic excellence, strong character, and continuous improvement.

The Elementary Interventionist / Grade-Level Lead Teacher supports two elementary grade levels by leading collaborative efforts related to student achievement, intervention systems, instructional support, and special education coordination. This role is essential in fostering a culture of literacy and foundational skill development while strengthening Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), supporting MTSS systems, and ensuring students receive timely academic and behavioral support.

This position also serves as a teacher leader for assigned grade levels, helping strengthen communication, consistency, and alignment between classroom teachers, intervention staff, special education staff, and administration.

Primary Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership & Data Analysis

  • Lead grade-level teams in the analysis of academic, attendance, behavioral, and intervention data to support instructional decision-making and student growth.
  • Support the implementation of a coherent system of curriculum, instruction, intervention, and assessment aligned with school priorities and state standards.
  • Facilitate grade-level data meetings and support teachers in identifying instructional next steps for students.
  • Assist with progress monitoring systems and intervention planning for students requiring additional academic support.
  • Support the implementation of schoolwide literacy and foundational skill development initiatives.

Intervention & Student Support

  • Coordinate and support academic intervention services for assigned grade levels within the MTSS framework.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to students individually and in small groups based on identified student needs.
  • Monitor intervention effectiveness and adjust supports based on student progress data.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, counselors, related service providers, and administration to support student success and well-being.

Special Education Coordination

  • Support the coordination and implementation of special education services for assigned grade levels.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers and service providers to ensure alignment between interventions, accommodations, and classroom instruction.
  • Assist with monitoring compliance requirements related to student support services and documentation.
  • Participate in problem-solving meetings, parent conferences, and student support meetings as needed.

Grade-Level Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as the lead teacher for assigned grade levels, supporting communication, collaboration, and instructional consistency across teams.
  • Support the facilitation of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and collaborative planning structures.
  • Assist administration with the implementation of school initiatives, instructional priorities, and organizational systems.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team culture aligned with Sussex Academy's mission and core values.

Family Engagement & Communication

  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, interventions, and supports.
  • Partner with families and staff to support students academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Support parent meetings and conferences related to academic and intervention concerns.

Operations & School Responsibilities

  • Assist with state and local assessment coordination and implementation.
  • Utilize instructional technology, student information systems, and progress monitoring platforms to support teaching and learning.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records related to interventions, progress monitoring, and student supports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Elementary School or school administration.
