Position Details
POSITION: Grayling Elementary Library Media/Instructional Paraprofessional
DESCRIPTION: To provide media services for students, teaching staff, and building-level administration in a helpful, positive, congenial, and flexible manner. Work in classrooms, in small groups and in individual instruction with Grayling Elementary students in grades K-4. Lunch or recess supervision may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicant must have at least a high school diploma.
- Must be able to communicate at a high level both orally and in writing.
- Must interact successfully with students and staff, have self-initiative, and demonstrate the ability to work without direct supervision.
- Must be flexible and organized, and be team oriented with a willingness to collaborate and communicate with primary and elementary school staff.
- Must be willing to continue to obtain further training and professional development as it applies to this position.
- Experience with selecting appropriate reading materials as to content, interest, and reading level.
- Experience with budget management.
- Experience with and knowledge of current children's literature.
- Ability to facilitate language arts, guided reading, and intervention support
- Experience with administration of NWEA assessment and experience with analyzing the results of the assessment.
- Experience with the facilitation of technological devices.
- Ability to create a child-oriented media center.
- Ability to relate to young children.
- Experience with library services and lessons preferred.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establishes library media center policy and goals consistent with school philosophy.
- Maintains accurate up-to-date records in regard to media center holdings and activities.
- Makes provisions for special needs students.
- Provides for an ongoing inventory of materials and equipment.
- Evaluates program on a continuous basis.
- Develops public relations program through bulletin boards, displays, student newspapers, staff news, parent newsletters and local newspapers.
- Develops and maintains a working relationship with community librarians, teaching faculty, staff, colleagues and students.
- Selects and maintains a collection of materials which reflect instructional and recreational needs of the students.
- Fosters an inviting, attractive, friendly, neat atmosphere which encourages productive and responsible student behavior.
- Provides individual instruction in the use of indexes and catalogs as needed.
WORK YEAR: 180 student days plus vacations and holidays, 7 hours per day.
