Position Summary:
The Elementary General Music Teacher provides engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction to students in grades K-6. This role fosters a love of music while supporting creativity, collaboration, and foundational musical skills aligned to state standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver standards-based music instruction for all elementary grade levels
- Teach fundamental music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, movement, and performance
- Incorporate singing, instruments, movement, and creative expression into lessons
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and abilities
- Assess student progress and provide feedback to students and families
- Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement and behavior expectations
- Prepare students for performances and school programs as appropriate
- Lead 4th-6th grade choir and 6th grade band
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support school-wide initiatives
- Maintain classroom materials, instruments, and equipment
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and events
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field
- Valid state teaching license in Music (Elementary/General Music endorsement)
- Knowledge of child development and elementary instructional strategies
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to lead vocal and/or instrumental ensembles
- Familiarity with integrating technology into music instruction
Work Environment:
- School-based setting with regularly scheduled classes
- Occasional evening events for performances or programs
