The PE teacher’s role is to create a creative, caring atmosphere while implementing lessons that promote a healthy lifestyle, teaches sportsmanship, and promotes exercise. Lessons and activities must be tailored for each grade and should be grade level appropriate and attend to the social and emotional wellbeing of the students.
Responsibilities
Create physical fitness lessons for grades kindergarten through 4th grade.
Lessons incorporate NC Healthful Living Essential Standards
Model and teach sportsmanship
Works cooperatively with other elective teachers
Establish clear classroom procedures to maintain a safe and well-managed classroom
Demonstrate, explain and model basic skills of sports, games, aerobics, yoga and/or dancing
Provide a safe environment and ensure the safety of the PE equipment, thus ensuring the safety of the children
Maintain sports equipment
Assess the student’s growth, record and maintain grades, and prepares report cards
Open and clear communication with the parents, students, and all stakeholders
Able to carry and handle all sports equipment
Ability to meet the needs of students in grades kindergarten through 4th grade
Perform all other duties assigned by Principal and Assistant Princpal’s

Utilizing a variety of teaching strategies

Data-driven/ NCCI/IXL Scores
Adhere to established school norms
Professional Development
Minimum Qualifications
NC Teaching Certificate preferred
Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited College or University
2+ years’ experience working in a school setting preferred
