Position Details

Onaway Elementary School is seeking a passionate, student-centered Elementary Physical Education Teacher who is committed to promoting lifelong wellness, physical fitness, teamwork, and positive character development. The successful candidate will support student growth through the use of research-based, highly effective instructional practices that foster active learning, student engagement, and a positive school culture. The ideal candidate will build trusting relationships with students, create an inclusive learning environment where every child can succeed, and utilize differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of all learners. They will collaborate effectively with colleagues and families, demonstrate professionalism and integrity, and embrace innovative instructional practices and technology to enhance student achievement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a comprehensive elementary physical education program aligned with Michigan Academic Standards.
  • Design engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that encourage participation, physical fitness, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles of all students.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, equipment, and technology to maximize student engagement.
  • Assess student learning using both formative and summative assessments and utilize data to guide instruction.
  • Monitor student progress and implement interventions to support individual student success.
  • Establish and consistently implement positive behavior management practices.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, intervention staff, special education staff, and families to support student growth.
  • Maintain accurate student records and communicate student progress effectively.
  • Participate as an active member of the school community through professional learning, committee work, and school events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
  • Health and Physical Education (PK-12) endorsement or willingness to complete state-approved coursework.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of elementary physical education curriculum and best instructional practices.
  • Positive interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset..
  • Knowledge of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and a willingness to implement innovative teaching strategies.
