The Department of Teacher and Special Education seeks a full-time, fixed-term Elementary (PK-6) Mathematics Lecturer for a one-year appointment (August 2026-May 2027). The successful candidate will teach a 4-4 load and provide instructional leadership in elementary mathematics content and pedagogy across the program pathways leading to PK-3 and 3-6 teaching endorsements. This requires on-campus teaching in Mount Pleasant as well as online course teaching assignment/s.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mathematics Education, Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in elementary mathematics content and pedagogy.
  • Successful PK-6 teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Educator Preparation Standards for Teaching Grades PK-6, including the PK-3 and Grades 3-6 grade bands, and the Michigan PK-6 Standards for Mathematics.
  • Evidence of effective teaching and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with teacher candidates, faculty, and PK-12 school partners.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Mathematics Education, Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or a related field with an elementary mathematics education focus.
  • Certified PK-6 educator with a math endorsement.
  • Experience teaching mathematics methods or content courses in educator preparation programs.
  • Experience supporting teacher candidates in lesson planning, unit development, assessment design, and reflective practice.
  • Experience teaching graduate-level quantitative research methods, statistics, or educational research courses for possible supplemental teaching assignments within the department.
