Job Title: Elementary Assistant Principal Reports to: Principal Exemption Status/Test: Exempt/Executive* Dept./School: Fort Sam Houston Elementary Number of Days Employed: 210 Date Revised: September 4, 2026 Pay Grade: AP-4
Primary Purpose:
Assist the school principal in overall administration of instructional program and campus level operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Master's degree Texas Mid-management or other appropriate Texas certificate Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support Systems (TTESS) appraiser, required Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills: Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction Understanding of special programs and ability to support such programs Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness Ability to implement policy and procedures Ability to interpret data Thorough understanding of school operations Strong organizational, communication, public relations and interpersonal skills Ability to coordinate campus support operations
Experience: Minimum three years teaching experience at the Elementary level, preferred Campus administrative experience preferred

Instructional Management
Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.

Monitor instructional processes to ensure that program activities are related to outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions where necessary.
Establish clear expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.

Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
Coach staff and help them identify and develop appropriate professional growth opportunities as well as accomplish improvement goals.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
Supervise operations in principal's absence.
Plan daily school activities through the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with attendance clerk on follow-up investigations. 3 Elementary Assistant Principal Job Description
Work with Grade Level Leads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
Assist with safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
Student Management
Ensure that students are adequately supervised during noninstructional periods.
Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior. Serve as a role model for all campus staff.
School/Community Relations
Articulate the school's mission to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.

Provide support with game duties as needed by the district Athletics Department.
