The Freedom Area School District anticipates seeking a visionary leader to become the Associate Principal of Freedom Elementary School. In alignment with our district's vision of excellence, we are seeking an expert relationship-builder with a demonstrated commitment to student success and collaboration. The ideal candidate will work towards achieving continual academic excellence, leading, developing, and empowering all members of the school staff to collectively serve our students and community. The candidate will achieve this by working in partnership with the building-level principal as instructional leaders to ensure academic success for all students. In addition to being an instructional leader, this position is primarily responsible for the K-12 Homeless Liaison, student attendance, student behavior, and implementation of our PBS program. The Freedom Area School District serves approximately 1550 students throughout the district.

The Freedom Elementary Associate Principal will be a student-centered, solutions-oriented, strong communicator, and collaborative leader who demonstrates proficiency in the following performance standards:

  1. Leadership for Student Learning

The Elementary Associate Principal will assist the Elementary Principal in ensuring the success of every student. The collaborative implementation of a shared vision for teaching and learning that promotes academic achievement, positive behavior, and continuous school improvement is essential. The successful candidate will foster an inclusive learning environment where every child is supported to reach their full potential.

Key measures of success include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the implementation of academic intervention systems and Multi-Level Systems of Support.

  • Leading and supporting PBS schoolwide behavioral expectations.

  • Leading and supporting CKLA implementation and schoolwide ACT 20 assessment/intervention

  • Monitoring and improving student attendance.

  • Supporting student behavior systems and restorative practices.

  • Collaborating with staff to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.

  1. School Climate

The Elementary Associate Principal will foster the success of all students by advocating for, developing, nurturing, and sustaining a safe, welcoming, and academically engaging school climate. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with teachers, students, families, and support staff to create a positive elementary school experience that supports both academic and social-emotional development.

  1. Human Resources Leadership

The Elementary Associate Principal will work closely with the Elementary Principal to provide effective leadership in the areas of staff recruitment, support, supervision, professional growth, evaluation, and retention of high-quality instructional and support personnel. The successful candidate will promote collaboration, professional learning, and a culture of continuous improvement.

  1. Organizational Management

In partnership with the Elementary Principal, the Associate Principal will support the effective management and operation of the school by overseeing daily building operations, student supervision, safety procedures, scheduling, and the equitable use of school resources to maximize student learning and staff effectiveness.

  1. Communication and Community Relations

The Elementary Associate Principal will foster the success of all students by effectively communicating, collaborating, and engaging with families, staff, and community partners to support student learning and well-being. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to build strong, trusting relationships and maintain open lines of communication that promote understanding, partnership, and continuous improvement aligned with the district''s mission and vision.

The Elementary Associate Principal will demonstrate behavior consistent with legal, ethical, and professional standards while engaging in ongoing professional learning and contributing positively to the administrative team. This position requires a highly collaborative leader who embraces innovation, continuous improvement, confidentiality, and shared leadership in support of student success.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Wisconsin Principal License (#51 or #5051).

  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered leadership and continuous school improvement.

  • Strong instructional leadership skills, including knowledge of current instructional practices, assessment, and evidence-based teaching strategies.

  • Ability to build positive, collaborative relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.

  • One to three years of successful administrative experience as a Dean of Students, Associate Principal, or Assistant Principal.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.

  • Ability to support a positive school culture through proactive student behavior systems and restorative practices.

  • Knowledge of Multi-Level Systems of Support (MLSS/MTSS), Response to Intervention (RtI), and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

  • Understanding of special education, English Learner (EL), Title I, and intervention programming.

  • Knowledge of Wisconsin Act 20 and evidence-based literacy practices

  • Completed or willing to complete Act 20 Literacy Leadership Training for Administrators.

  • Experience using educational technology platforms and student information systems, including Google Workspace for Education, Skyward, and other instructional technology tools.

  • Ability to analyze student attendance and behavioral data to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills, prioritizing multiple responsibilities while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Commitment to ethical leadership, professionalism, confidentiality, and equity in all aspects of school leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting or coordinating Title I programs and services.

  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) preferred.
