Position: BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTIONIST- GRAYLING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Job Overview:

The Elementary Behavioral Interventionist will work closely with students, teachers, and families to develop and implement behavior intervention plans, support students with behavioral needs, and contribute to a positive school climate. The ideal candidate will have expertise in behavioral management techniques and a passion for supporting students in their social-emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development of functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and develop individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students with behavioral challenges.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group behavioral interventions to students, using evidence-based practices to encourage the development of adaptive skills.
  • Work with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other school personnel to implement and monitor behavior interventions within the classroom setting.
  • Assist in de-escalating crisis situations and providing support to students with challenging behaviors, using non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
  • Regularly collect and analyze data on student behavior to assess progress and adjust interventions as necessary.
  • Collaborate with parents and families to communicate intervention plans, progress, and strategies for supporting behavior management at home.
  • Provide professional development and training to staff on behavior management strategies and support the implementation of school-wide behavioral initiatives.
  • Implement evidence-based Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions and strategies as outlined in individualized BIPs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all legal, ethical, and school policies related to student behavior and records.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Education, Psychology, Behavioral Science, Social Work, or a related field (required).
  • State Certification in Special Education, Elementary Education, or a related field (required). Certification in Behavior Analysis (e.g., RBT, BCBA) is a plus.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students with behavioral challenges, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, ODD, or other behavioral or emotional disorders.
  • Strong knowledge of behavior management techniques (e.g., ABA, PBIS, crisis intervention strategies).
  • Experience with data collection and behavioral assessment tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with students, families, and staff.
  • Ability to problem-solve, think critically, and develop creative interventions to address diverse behavioral needs.

Preferred Skills:

  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training (e.g., CPI or similar programs).
  • Experience with evidence-based tiered interventions or other proactive behavioral supports.
  • Ability to provide professional development and support to school staff.
