    Job Description

    Job Summary: The dean of scholars is the person responsible for assisting the school principal

    in overall administration of the school culture and daily operations. It is the expectation that this

    individual will work with the colleagues, parents, and scholars to create a school environment

    that is focused on academic achievement, character and success beyond high school. TLA is a

    school where scholars and families are supported, while maintaining high expectations for all.

    The dean of scholars is expected to fully embrace the school's methodology and uphold the

    high expectations of The Lincoln Academy. The dean of scholars will support an equitable

    environment with rigorous instruction, joyous interactions, and strong community partnerships.

    Though it is impossible to list all roles the dean of scholars will fill, specific job responsibilities

    include:

    Essential Functions:

    Oversight of culture, connections and joy at TLA

    Ensure strong implementation of classroom culture coaching model

    Prepare and lead all quarterly incentives

    Manage all homework infractions, clubs and incentives

    Create and lead all grade band assemblies

    Manage and ensure attendance notifications

    Coordinate with Scholar Support Services to support scholars

    Supervise entry, dismissal, lunch and recess

    Develop proactive interventions and create natural consequences when appropriate

    Support staff with challenging behaviors

    Daily check-ins with staff and scholars

    Oversight and implementation of uniform infractions

    Manage and ensure all discipline notifications

    Review handbook and suggest any adjustments yearly regarding culture

    Lead character strong, restorative practices, RAP and team building sessions in August

    Academy

    Help develop and support PD/weekly staff meetings

    Oversight of all school drills, fire, tornado, lock-downs

    Create and co-lead Friday assemblies

    Lead CST2 Interventions

    Recess/Weather monitoring and communication with staff

    School television monitor weekly updates

    Character Strong leadership, training and ownership

    Manage and monitor scholars of concern with a focus on prevention for behaviors

    IEP/504 support and participate in requested meetings

    Oversight of discipline and parent contacts

    Problem solving for scholars of concern and supporting families with ideas and

    communication

    Supervise athletic events

    Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment

    Staffing evaluations and meetings

    Support organization and supervision of dances, recreation night, performances and

    other events

    Other duties as requested

    Skills/Attributes:

    Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the

    administration and supervision of character development programs in the school

    Skill in oral and written communications

    Ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff, parents,

    scholars, and community partners

    Education

    Master's degree and Administrative license

    Experience

    Administrative experience and teaching in an urban setting preferred

    Licensing

    WI DPI Teacher and Administrator License

    Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification and CPI Certification required annually before

    first day with scholars

    Physical Demands/Working Conditions: The majority of this job involves walking, sitting or

    standing necessary to observe classroom and school activities, mostly indoors. The ability to

    physically perform the duties and work in the school setting is required. Some conditions

    include:

    Must be able to stand up to 2 hours instructing staff or instructing a classroom of

    learners

    Must be able to sit and look at a computer monitor, using a keyboard/mouse and typing

    for up to 2 hours at a time

    Must be able to lift up to 25lbs on a frequent basis

    May be required to lift and position scholars with physical disabilities; control behavior

    through physical restraint; and assist non ambulatory scholars.
