The Food Service Kitchen Assistant supports the daily operations of the school kitchen by assisting with food preparation, meal service, kitchen cleanup, and maintaining a safe and sanitary food service environment for scholars and staff.
Essential Functions:
Assists with the preparation of meals, including cooking, portioning, packaging, and organizing food items for breakfast and lunch service.
Serves prepared meals to scholars and staff in a courteous, timely, and professional manner.
Cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment, utensils, dishes, serving areas, workstations, and other food service areas.
Assists with receiving, storing, organizing, and putting away food, supplies, and kitchen materials.
Follows all food safety, sanitation, and health department guidelines.
Assists with miscellaneous food service duties as assigned, including counting meals, helping with inventory, preparing food containers, and supporting daily kitchen operations.
Maintains a positive attitude and works cooperatively with the Kitchen Manager, school staff, scholars, and visitors.
Responds productively to changes in schedule, duties, or kitchen needs and performs other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Certification or Licensure: Food Handler’s Certification required within 30 days of hire, if not already obtained.
Experience: Previous food service, school kitchen, or related experience preferred.
Other Requirements:
Ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, scholars, and others.
Ability to work in all areas of food service as needed.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Ability to report to work on time and notify the Kitchen Manager as soon as possible when unable to work.
