CCSD 89 is seeking a full-time LPN to work with an elementary school aged student for the 2026-2027 school year. This positions works 179 days.

Job Description: The LPN will work with a student with unique medical needs that require a higher level of medical knowledge. They will perform medical procedures not normally provided by the regular teacher assistant to maintain students in the least restrictive environment. They will also act as active members of the educational team in providing services to students. The Health Aide will work under the supervision of the Certified School Nurse and Building Nurse assigned to the student's program.

Qualifications:

  1. Registered LPN licensure in the State of Illinois
  2. Current First Aid and CPR/AED Certification
  3. At least 21 years of age
  4. ISBE Paraprofessional License (See attached for assistance as this is an easy process)
  5. Experience in working with special needs students

Responsibilities: The LPN's primary responsibility is to the individual student's health and safety needs. After these needs are met, the LPN will follow the duties outlined for the general Teacher Assistant.

1. Along with the Certified School Nurse and Building Nurse, the LPN will develop the student's health plans and provide classroom staff, information regarding health plans.

2. Perform medical procedures that are necessary for the students who requires medical assessment (i.e. blood glucose monitoring, catheterizations, gastrostomy tube care, and tracheostomy care.)

3. Monitor and assist student in daily routines and help the student follow individual daily schedules.

4. Document procedures and health status of student on a daily log.

5. Communicate changes in health status of the student to Certified School Nurse/Building Nurse and Teacher.

6. Handle medical emergencies appropriately and classroom problems quickly and efficiently.

7. Provide instruction to the student individually following the Teacher's lesson plans and with Teacher direction.

8. Accompany, assist and monitor student as needed in all other areas of the school program outside of classroom (i.e. mainstream classes, community, vocational, transportation to and from home as appropriate, etc.)

9. Implement established classroom and individual behavior management plan for the student.

10. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality and personal flexibility in all areas.

11. Participate in/attend building and district meetings, as required.

Salary and Benefits: All non-certified staff that fall under the Support Professional Association "SPA" are placed on a salary schedule according to position and experience as part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The hourly range for this position is: $28.00-31.25

Non-Certified staff experience 12 sick days and 2 personal days of paid time off. All full-time staff have the privilege of partaking in our health and dental insurance programs; these include 90% Board paid health insurance for the employee (80% Board paid for Family participants) and 100% Board paid dental insurance for the individual staff member.
