POSITION:  Elementary School Principal

 

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Mabton School District Superintendent

 

The Opportunity

Required Qualifications

  •  Certification: Valid WA State Teacher’s certificate and valid WA State Principal’s Credential.

     

     

  •  Experience: Demonstrated successful K-12 administrative experience.

     

     

  •  Standards Knowledge: Knowledge and experience in improving student achievement based on earning standards.

     

     

Desired Skills & Preferred Experience

  •  Bilingualism: Bilingual/Biliterate in English/Spanish preferred to effectively serve our community.

     

     

  • Leadership Experience: Minimum 3 years demonstrated successful K-12 administrative experience; Principal experience preferred.

     

     

  •  Diverse Communities: Demonstrated success working with diverse and migrant populations, including English language learners (ELL) and students with special needs.

     

     

  •  Behavioral Systems: Deep understanding of Positive Behavior Interventions, including Tier 1 Core instruction and the implementation of academic and behavior Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.

     

     

  •  Instructional Vision: A solid understanding of teaching and learning with experience utilizing the Danielson Framework for teacher evaluation.

 Qualifications Required:

 

  • Valid WA State Teacher's certificate and valid WA State Principal's Credential
  • Demonstrated successful K-12 administrative experience; Principal experience preferred 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative programs, think creatively, and use collaboration to actualize ideas 
  • Knowledge and experience in improving student achievement based on state and national learning standards, school improvement plan, and all other state requirements 
  • Knowledge and experience in leading Professional Learning Communities to ensure support and accountability for all staff and students 
  • Knowledge and experience in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, including the use of both academic and behavior Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions 
  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse student populations, including students in alternative settings, special needs, English language learners (ELL), and highly capable students 
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and successfully with staff, students, patrons, and administrators 
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience in supervision and evaluation of staff; preference for prior experience utilizing the Danielson Framework for teacher evaluation 
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and work well under pressure 
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills 
  • Support and communicate district philosophy 
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology to enhance instruction and classroom and school management 
  • Strong administrative skills including supervision, budgeting, planning, organization, and goal-setting skills appropriate to manage personnel and programs, communicate effectively, utilize existing resources, engage in shared decision making, take timely action using sound judgment, and solve problems

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provides strong executive leadership by actively supporting the Superintendent and Board of Directors' goals and initiatives, and participating as an engaged member of the leadership team. 
  • Promotes and communicates the District’s mission, vision, and goals by effectively communicating support service efforts across the district to various stakeholders to ensure an excellent customer service environment; clearly and succinctly communicates district information to community stakeholders. 
  • Provide strong instructional leadership to facilitate opportunities for all students to meet or exceed academic standards 
  • Oversee and manage school administrative functions to maintain safe and efficient school operations within district guidelines 
  • Supervise personnel, monitor student performance, provide for professional growth, and achieve the overall objectives of the district's instructional program 
  • Facilitate communication between employees, students, and/or parents/guardians, community, colleagues, and students 
  • Recommend staff placement to the Employee Services Department for action 
  • Evaluate staff to achieve standards, maximize performance, and maintain safety 
  • Process student disciplinary and corrective actions and related matters for the purpose of documenting such actions and adhering to district policies and law 
  • Recommend policies, procedures, and actions to provide district personnel with direction and/or data for decision making 
  • Supervise student activities outside of the school day to ensure adequate student supervision 
  • Lead the administrative team to ensure assigned Assistant Principal(s) are provided professional support and accountability 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years demonstrated successful K-12 administrative experience; Principal experience preferred 
  • Bilingual/Biliterate English/Spanish

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 35% sitting, 35% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
