Position Summary
The Manitowoc Public School District is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Special Education Teacher with an EBD emphasis to provide developmentally appropriate instruction and support for students with disabilities. This educator will work closely with regular education teachers and support staff to implement IEPs and promote the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development of learners in inclusive classrooms.
Essential Job Functions
- Current valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teacher certification in the respective classifications and/or Cross-Categorial Special Education
- Ability to team with other special and regular education teachers and support staff to meet the academic, functional, social/emotional/behavioral needs of students.
- Ability to support students in the least restrictive environment.
- Understanding of the IEP process and assessment procedures in the various special education classification areas.
- Background in the use of supplementary materials to support students in the core curriculum.
- Knowledge and experience in the utilization of behavior management systems including conducting Functional Behavioral Assessment and designing Behavioral Intervention Plans.
- Knowledge of academic interventions and data collection systems that support student growth and learning.
- Knowledge of techniques, which are successful in working with parents of students with disabilities.
- Assesses how each child learns best and then adapting teaching methods to fit unique learning styles
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively instruct and assess students as per the standards outlined on the District's supervision and evaluation form and/or other alternative supervision and evaluation methods.
- Consults with general education teachers about working with children with disabilities in their classrooms
- Plans and implements targeted specially designed instruction.
- Administers diagnostic tests and evaluating outcomes of teaching methods through data collection and analysis.
- Modifies the general education curriculum for students with special needs based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
- Knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) strategies and techniques, or willingness to be trained.
Qualifications
- Wisconsin DPI Certification for Cross-Categorical Special Education
- Demonstrate strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong knowledge of Google Workspace, as well as an aptitude for integrating technology into the work
- Valid driver's license and access to an insured motor vehicle, or other timely access to private transportation, to facilitate assignments to school districts, meetings, or other off-site destinations
