Position Summary

Napoleon Community Schools is seeking a highly qualified, student-centered Special Education Teacher (Resource Room) to support students with diverse learning needs. The teacher will provide specialized instruction, develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and collaborate with general education staff to ensure students receive appropriate services in the least restrictive environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Special Education Teacher will:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities in a resource room setting
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant special education records and documentation
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support access to the general education curriculum
  • Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, and progress monitoring
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet individual student needs
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress
  • Ensure compliance with Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and IDEA requirements
  • Implement positive behavior interventions and supports to promote student engagement and success
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • Valid Michigan Special Education endorsement (Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Impairment, Cognitive Impairment or other approved endorsement)
  • Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and instructional best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a resource room or special education setting
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with inclusive practices and co-teaching models
  • Knowledge of MTSS frameworks and data-driven instruction

Pre-Employment Screening

Applicants who receive a conditional offer of employment will be required to successfully complete a criminal background check and any other required pre-employment screening in accordance with district policy and state law.

Employment Terms / Compensation

Salary will be in accordance with the current Master Agreement. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, sick leave, and personal business days as outlined in the negotiated agreement.
