MSD of Shakamak is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Elementary Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs. This position is responsible for designing and delivering individualized instruction, ensuring compliance with special education laws and regulations, and collaborating with staff and families to support student success.
The ideal candidate will be committed to meeting students where they are, fostering growth academically, socially, and emotionally, and maintaining high expectations for all learners.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized Education Programs (IEPS)
- Provide specially designed instruction aligned to Indiana Academic Standards
- Differenetiate instruction to meet individual student needs across a variety of abilities
- Utlilize data and progress monitoring tools to inform instruction and IEP goals
- Maintain accurate and compliant special education documentation and timelines
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and co-teaching models
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and needs
- Support students social, emotional, and behavioral development
- Participate in case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Ensure compliance with all district, state, and federal special education requirements
- Assist in creating a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment
Qualifications
- Valid Indiana teaching license in Special Education (or ability to obtain)
- Knowledge of IDEA, Article 7, and special education compliance requirements
- Experience with IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and intervention strategies
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and service providers
- Strong organizational and case management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in elementary special education settings
- Knowledge of inclusive practices and co-teaching models
- Experience working with students with range of disabilities (academic, behavioral, developmental)
- Familiarity with ILEARN accommodations and modifications
