DESCRIPTION
Madison District Public Schools is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and qualified Special Education Teacher to lead a self-contained elementary classroom. The ideal candidate will support students with diverse needs through individualized instruction, behavior support, and collaboration with families and service providers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement
- Experience working with students with disabilities in a self-contained setting preferred
- Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills
- Knowledge of IEP development, special education law, and instructional best practices
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and staff
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct instruction to students with mild to severe disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines
- Create a structured and supportive classroom environment that fosters student independence and learning
- Utilize evidence-based instructional and behavioral strategies
- Collect and analyze data to inform instructional planning and progress monitoring
- Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, ancillary staff, and families
- Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development
- Supervise and guide classroom support staff (e.g., paraprofessionals)
- Implement accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology as required
