DESCRIPTION

Madison District Public Schools is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and qualified Special Education Teacher to lead a self-contained elementary classroom. The ideal candidate will support students with diverse needs through individualized instruction, behavior support, and collaboration with families and service providers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a self-contained setting preferred
  • Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills
  • Knowledge of IEP development, special education law, and instructional best practices
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and staff

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct instruction to students with mild to severe disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines
  • Create a structured and supportive classroom environment that fosters student independence and learning
  • Utilize evidence-based instructional and behavioral strategies
  • Collect and analyze data to inform instructional planning and progress monitoring
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, ancillary staff, and families
  • Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development
  • Supervise and guide classroom support staff (e.g., paraprofessionals)
  • Implement accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology as required
