Job Title: Elementary Specials Teacher - Second Steps / Art
Primary Role
Elementary Specials Teachers provide high-quality instruction in areas such as art, music, physical education, and social-emotional learning, enriching the overall learning experience for students. They design and deliver engaging lessons that foster creativity, critical thinking, emotional awareness, collaboration, and physical and social development while aligning with district and state standards.
For positions incorporating the Second Step program, the teacher also provides instruction and reinforcement of social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies including empathy, emotional regulation, problem-solving, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
Specials Teachers collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, counselors, and families to connect learning across disciplines and support schoolwide initiatives. By maintaining safe, inclusive, and engaging environments, Specials Teachers play a vital role in nurturing well-rounded student growth and achievement.

- Plan and deliver engaging instruction in two assigned special subject areas: Art Education and Second Step (Social-Emotional Learning) on a split schedule.
- Foster student growth by integrating creativity, physical activity, problem-solving, and collaboration into lessons.
- Support the development of empathy, emotional regulation, positive peer relationships, and responsible decision-making through instructional practices and classroom routines.
- Maintain accurate gradebooks and progress records that reflect student achievement in special subject areas.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, developmental, behavioral, and emotional needs of all learners.
- Collaborate with school counselors, classroom teachers, and administrators to support student wellness and school climate initiatives.
- Ensure safe, organized classrooms and learning environments, particularly with specialized materials, equipment, and spaces. reporting.

- Collaborate with grade-level teams, general education teachers, and administrators to integrate specials instruction with core academic learning.
- Participate in team, department, staff, and cross-district meetings to align instruction and share best practices.
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress, achievements, and opportunities in special subject areas.
- Support schoolwide initiatives by participating in case conferences, building committees, and community events when appropriate.
