Elementary School Guidance Counselor/Social Worker Responsibilities/Requirements The School Counselor works with students and staff in an elementary setting to meet the social/emotional needs of students so that they can be successful. Provides classroom lessons as a Tier 1 support for all students. Provides small group or one-on-one for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students. Assists staff in behavior modification and behavior plans. Shows all students love, kindness and compassion. Communicates well with all stake holders. Receives referrals and provides individual counseling to students in areas of personal, social, educational, and career development. Works with groups of students who are experiencing similar difficulties or who could gain better understanding through working with others. Assists parents in gathering, interpreting, and assimilating information considering student needs. Provides an orientation program for all students new to the school, including giving tours to students and families. Administers group tests and/or prepare those persons who will administer the tests. Interprets individual and group testing data when relevant and use the feedback to facilitate the student's school performance. Makes referrals of students with special problems to psychological services or other agencies Consults with the parents, principal, teachers, and student regarding the referral, prepare the necessary forms, and serve as the contact between the school and referral agency. Assist with summer school remediation Assist with K101 Monitors student progress. Assists the principal in being the PAR in case conferences. Cooperates with social service agencies. Maintains confidentiality about students, staff and families. Promotes positive school culture. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the corporation. Performs other counseling duties assigned by the principal when deemed necessary.
