    198THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE COUNTY OF MERCER JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Teacher, Elementary/Middle School LOCATION: Mercer County Schools DIVISION: Curriculum Instruction DEPARTMENT: Elementary/Middle RESPONSIBILITY OR PURPOSE: The classroom teacher serving in an instructional and supervisory capacity will make good use of his/her knowledge of the physiological, intellectual, social and emotional potentialities of students at various stages of development. The teacher is responsible for observing and enforcing the rules and regulations lawfully prescribed by Mercer County Schools and the building principal (as deemed appropriate). ACCOUNTABLE TO: Building Principal REGULAR DUTIES:

    1. Adheres to the prescribed county and state instructional program.
    2. Is familiar with and list instructional goals appropriate to the area of study.
    3. Is familiar with and utilize the programmatic definition of the student development and maturity for Early/Primary Education (Grades K-4) and Middle Childhood/Middle School. High Education, Grades 5-8).
    4. Schedules the school day for the required instructional time.
    5. Plans methods and materials to instruction.
    6. Develops and implements lesson plans aligned to curriculum standards to effectively drive instruction and support student achievement.
    7. Teaches ideas, concepts, and appreciations.
    8. Directs learning activities.
    9. Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning. 10.Uses a wide variety of motivational techniques, teaching strategies and learning materials. 11.Utilizes instructional management system which increase which increase student learning and maximizes time on task. 12.Implements his/her program of study. 13.Monitors student progress towards learning outcomes. 14.Develops a student evaluation system to coincide with Learner Outcomes, Activities, the programmatic definition of the student and the student's progress. 15.Makes reports as required by the individual school and/or Mercer County School System. Revised May 8, 2023 April 1, 2020 16.Refers to students for evaluation and/or special services when needed. 17.Reports suspected health, behavioral and child abuse irregularities to the school principal and other authorities as the local and state policies/law require. 18.Counsels and consults (students, parents, and colleagues). 19.Establishes and maintains positive communications with students and parents. 20.Plans and participates in parent conferences. 21.Provides special services for which he/she is competent and interested. 22.Plans and conducts field trips, coordinated through in the principal's office. 23.Performs unspecified duties assigned by the school principal during the school day (i.e. hall, field trips, restroom, etc.). 24.Services on school and county curriculum committees if asked or selected. 25.Supervises and performs other non-directed teaching school activities. 26.Maintains and upgrades his/her professional skills through attendance of workshops, clinics, conferences and /or additional course work in his/her area(s) of certificate endorsements. 27.Participates in school and county staff development programs. 28.Maintains professional work habits. 29.Performs other duties as assigned by immediate Supervisor. SPECIAL OR OCCASIONAL (COLLATERAL DUTIES): Performs other reasonable duties, as assigned by the building principal, as they are consistent with current Board of Education policies.     13. Supplemental materials WORKING CONDITIONS: 200-day contract MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    14. Certification, in Elementary Education or one of the four content areas (middle school, if advertised for a middle school setting) ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Candidate should have record of excellent work attendance, outstanding evaluations, evidence of performing extra-curricular duties (service on curricular committees, bus/lunch duty, department heads, club sponsors, coaching, etc), positive attitudes, sound financial management skills, and concrete personal contributions to raising student achievement as evidences on standardized test scores.
