About Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School

Guided by the Holy Spirit, under the Mantle of Mary, Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School forms disciples through Catholic Tradition, Personal Discipline, and Academic Excellence. We are a vibrant Catholic community committed to nurturing the spiritual, intellectual, and emotional growth of every child in partnership with families and the Church.

Position Overview

Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School is seeking a faith-filled, dedicated, and compassionate educator to join our Elementary team. We are looking for a versatile teacher who is passionate about the foundational years of education and is equipped to lead instruction across all core subject areas, including Literacy, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

The ideal candidate is a nurturing, team-oriented educator with a growth mindset. We seek a teacher who understands the unique developmental needs of elementary students and is committed to fostering a love for learning within a Christ-centered environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Faith Integration: Create a Christ-centered classroom environment; integrate Catholic teachings, prayer, and traditions into daily lessons and routines.
  • Foundational Instruction: Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in all core subjects, with a strong emphasis on early literacy and numeracy development.
  • Whole-Child Development: Foster a supportive classroom "family" that prioritizes social-emotional growth alongside academic achievement.
  • Character Mentorship: Model and promote personal discipline, respect, kindness, and responsibility, helping students grow as young disciples.
  • Data-Informed Teaching: Use formal and informal assessments to differentiate instruction, meeting the diverse needs of learners within the classroom.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with grade-level peers and administration to support school-wide initiatives and student success.
  • Partnership: Maintain open, positive communication with parents, recognizing them as the primary educators of their children.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Education.
  • Certification: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for one) in Elementary Education. We welcome candidates with:
    • Traditional Certifications: K–5 (All Subjects) or K–8 (All Subjects / Self-Contained).
    • New State Grade Bands: Lower Elementary (PK–3) and/or Upper Elementary (3–6).
  • Subject Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to lead instruction in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Faith: Demonstrated commitment to Catholic education; Catechist certification (or willingness to obtain) is preferred.
  • Qualities of Excellence:
    • A deep well of patience and empathy for young learners.
    • Strong classroom management skills rooted in positive reinforcement.
    • Creativity in designing hands-on, multi-sensory lessons.
    • A reflective nature and a desire for continual professional growth.
  • Experience: Previous experience in an elementary classroom setting is preferred.
