About the Job
About the Job:
The Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health (ISGH) at the University of Minnesota Medical School is inviting applications for two (2) postdoctoral fellowships, the Randi and Fred Ettner Fellowship in Transgender Health and Michael E. Metz fFellowship in Souples' Sexual Health, to join a vibrant team of faculty and postdoctoral fellows for a two-year program beginning Fall 2027. We offer an opportunity for a clinical/research fellowship focused in specializing in couples/relationship and sex therapy and research, as well as one focused in gender affirming care and transgender health research. Candidates should clearly specify their preference for which fellowship they are interested in. Fellows will have the opportunity to be trained in Compulsive Sexual Behavior, Sex and Relationship Therapy, as well as Lifespan Gender Health. We cater the fellowship to the fellow's interest for skill development, so fellows who have an interest in more than one area of clinical care may have opportunities for engagement across care. Fellows will have the opportunity to develop their own line of research as well as collaborate with our faculty on a diversity of topics and modalities.
For more information about the specific fellowships offered please visit https://med.umn.edu/sexualhealth/education/postdoctoral-fellowships
Please note we are not offering a clinical fellowship at this time nor a fellowship specializing in compulsive sexual behavior.
Application Deadline Date: We will begin reviewing applications on a rolling basis starting December 7, 2026. We encourage all interested applicants to get their materials in by that date for full consideration.
ISGH promotes the sexual health of Minnesota, the nation, and the world through preeminence in research, education, clinical service, and advocacy. These positions will begin on September 3, 2027, though may be flexible for the successful applicant(s). Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. or Psy.D. prior to starting in this fellowship program. The fellowship includes a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and a professional travel stipend.
Duties/Responsibilities:
The Fellow will provide individual, family, couples, and group psychotherapy for a wide range of sexual issues with a primary focus in a specified area, depending on the fellowship. The clinical/research fellowships are designed to support a balanced mix of clinical and research training in the specified area, with broader experience in overall sexual and gender health care.
Fellows will have time devoted to completing research projects under faculty supervision, with the goal of presenting results at scientific conferences and preparing articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The fellow will have the opportunity to develop the capacity to write grant applications to support their scholarly work. Fellows in the clinical positions and the remaining time for fellows in the clinical/research positions is allocated to direct patient care, supervision, and didactics. Additionally, all fellows have opportunities to engage in teaching through our educational programming.
The Fairview Sexual and Gender Health Clinic serves a diverse group of patients (over 18,000 patient visits a year), including children, adolescents, disabled individuals, other minority groups, and clients with chronic medical or mental health problems. The training will help the fellow develop their skills in addressing sexual and gender issues in any clinical setting. In addition to sex and gender-related therapy, treatment addresses co-occurring mental health concerns and diagnoses. This kind of diversity makes for an exciting and stimulating fellowship!
