JOB TITLE: ELL Instructional Aide

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree or the Equivalent or Passing Scores on a Work Keys Test
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.

REPORTS TO: Principal

ANNUAL CALENDAR DAYS: 187 days (9 months, 7.5 hours/day)

JOB GOALS:

  • To assist with translation of information provided by parents, guardians, schools, teachers, administrators, and others.
  • To assist in providing supplemental support to schools with ESL students and their families.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with individual or small groups to reinforce skills introduced by the teacher.
  • Perform clerical and record-keeping duties as assigned by the principal and teacher.
  • Operate and care for equipment and materials used in assignments.
  • Report to the teacher any problem or special information about students.
  • Keep all information concerning school business, students, and personnel confidential.
  • Observe students during in-school and/or community-based work experience, during classroom activities, at home and other current school and community environments.
  • Assists as needed with translating written communication from central office administrators, school administrators, teachers, and other staff members into Spanish to assist in communication with parents of ELLs.
  • Assists with conducting ESL parent workshop and family literacy training sessions.
  • Provides translation services for teacher conferences and parent meetings, when requested.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Administrator.
